Ek driver's door cannot be locked from inside by pushing in switch?
I checked out a 96 EX coupe and found that I couldnt lock the door by pushing the switch or using the door lock fob from the inside. I didnt have the key that's why I was trying to lock it this way. The guy told me you had to use the key and lock it from outside, safety feature. Sounded like a fib to me. I had a 94 accord and it didnt do that, neither did my GSR or S2k.

No, I want to know if you can lock it from the inside by manually pushing the tab closed or by using the lock/unlock button. You'd think that it would be logical. It worked on my other Hondas, so I dont see why this woudl be a feature here
I know that when I park and get out of my EK I have to hold the door handle open on the inside with my thumb and hit the door lock with my finger, if that makes sense.
My sol was different.

These are really weird answers. I guess the guy is telling the truth. If I am sitting inside and I want to lock the doors, I cannot just hit the door lock button or manually lock the door by pushing the tab to the lock position manually?
The reason you cant flip the switch from the inside is because its a safety thing, so you dont lock your keys in the car. So it "forces" you to lock it with the key outside.
But you can hack it, just hold the handle, as if you were opening the door, then just switch the lock switch. And voila, door locked from inside. Now, dont forget your keys in your car

Thanks for the answer. That is kind of dumb though. Why if I ran into the store and took the key with me? A friend stays inside the car, decide to go into the store afterall, he would leave the car unlocked b/c he couldnt lock it.
I dont see how that is a safety feature. If the key was in the ignition, that would be different.
But I guess that solved the mystery. I swear it isnt this way in the accord, gsr or the S2k so I am puzzled by why Honda made it that way on the civic.

Hmm, I went out and checked mine and from the inside with the door closed I can just hit the lock manually.
With the door open I have to hold the handle while hitting the lock.

try holding your door handle open...thats how i had to lock my old crx...hold the handle and hit the tan to lock the door...as mentioned b4^
its a safety feature all my freinds 6gen civics do it so nothing to worry about. but if you go to the passenger door and push the lock in then the doors will lock but just a saftey feature imao
Yeah it is so you can't lock your keys in your car unless you try really hard.
It is an excellent idea. It isn't a hassle at all if you have keyless entry.
Since you can lock the door when it is shut, yet you can't when the door is open, you can probably conclude that is how they designed it.
