I'm interested in this Civic, what do you think?
I think you're absolutely right, that price is astronomical. Car looks good though. Have them come down off the price, then bring them down more for the necessary repairs. I think 7k is much more realistic for how it sits now.
That's pretty reasonable for repair cost.
BUT I wouldn't pay them for the work. I wouldn't pay a cent over blue book and I'd make them do the repairs within that range because the blue book for mint means mint and perfect mechanical condition.

You always want to make your first offer a lowball, this will give you more of a cushion to negotiate on. I would offer them $6500 INCLUDING free timing belt and water pump. If you have cash, that is even more attractive. Then go from there with their counter offer, and I would probably settle no higher than $7200-7500.
It's an LX. Not even the top trim. And the whole carfax thing is hit or miss, because there could have been an accident that wasn't reported.
Honda is not stupid. They know that they overprice their ****. Hit them with a lowball then slowly come up. And meet halfway between the lowball and their asking price.
BTW, I just picked up an 01 EX with 77k in "good" condition for $6k cash. Private seller.

I wouldnt have paid $8k. There are tons of nice cars that you can find for less, try browsing your local craigslist (even the vicinities close to your area) and possibly ebay (distance: nearest first). GL

I don't know where your at but here is my story. I just bought a 01 civic lx. I am in Houston, TX. I sold my old gas hog car to a private party a couple of weeks ago. Then I went shopping for a used civic in the $7000 TO $9000 RANGE. Every car I went to look at was sold. One used car lot I drove to, had 2 that I wanted to look at. When I got there one was on a test drive and the other a guy was signing the papers for when I arrived. Its crazy these cars are going fast!
