why is buzz not gone after clutch change?
so i bought my MY01 s2k with a stage 2 ACT clutch and lightened flywheel. but apparently, the buzzing didnt disappear. i thought, after you change the oem clutch, wouldnt the clutch buzz disappear?
The thickness of the clutch is what causes the buzz. Too thin and it allows the mainshaft to "free up" and vibrate the gears causes the buzz. Honda fixed this by making a thicker clutch putting pressure on the shaft. Now when u change the flywheel or clutch u change the parameters all together so buzz may happen. Honda has stated that the buzz does not reduce the life of the tranny so just deal with the noise like u do with exhuast.

"Clearance between transmission gears (backlash) is normal and sometimes audible. In an S2000, this noise is more noticeable since the transmission is between the seats instead of up front in the engine compartment. When the vehicle decelerates, its weight, together with the pulses from the engine, excites the transmission gears, causing them to buzz or rattle. The four springs in the clutch disc hub act as a damper. The clutch disc disc listed in this service bulletin is an improved version of the countermeasured disc released a year ago. Extensive testing has shown it to be quieter than any previous S2000 clutch discs.
Cause: Gear backlash in the transmission."

All I can contribute is the fact that they replaced my clutch disc with a newer oem one at Honda and it got rid of it. Then again, they're just loud in this car as is though.

not likely the flywheel. i had the same HDSS but stock flywheel and it was still buzzy. pissed me off that it didn't fix the buzz

My '02 has clutch buzz up the wazoo. I only notice it when I start up the car and it's not moving and it's just buzzing to hell and back. Pretty annoying. Oddly enough it only buzzes sometimes.

you probably have a buzz from heat shield. the tranny buzz comes from deceleration, around 3-4k rpm.
i had buzz on my 01 and i replaced the clutch with an Exedy OEM and the buzz is gone.
