Default Anyone here have experience with Pulsed MIG vertical ups?

We're trying to do a vertical up with our lincoln 300 on pulse but can't seem to get the settings right. We're using .45 wire with 85/15 gas, and have tried everything from 100-250wfs and .70-1.15 trim. The weld we're trying to get is a 1/4" fillet on some 1/4" plate. As we reduce WFS the weld doesn't seem to fill in, and the pulse simply eats away the material. As we reduce the trim, it simply spatters more and makes the puddle unstable. We can get a good looking bead when we have the WFS and trim low, but at that rate we might as well simply be using a normal short circuit method.

Anyone have any reccomended settings for us to try out? We've tinkered around with the arc control, but it's only caused more problems. We are looking to run pulse simply for the time savings, not entirely for the strength increase. at this rate, we might as well simply go back to regular mig.

Thanks for any help guys,
Bryson @ CorTek inc.

Can you lay it horizontal and spray it?

Nope. Our only option is V-up or V-down (large structure), but we are only approved to do the V-up. Apparently the engineers don't like the V-down option, even though I think it would be more than enough.

I'd just short circuit it....1/4 isn't that thick so SC should be fine unless the engineers specify pulsed

Yeah I think thats what were going to have to do. It was our proposal to run spray transfer welds on this joint with the sole intention that they would be V-downs (MUCH faster than short circuit V-ups) with more than enough strength for the application. However, our dumbass of a boss didn't mention this to the engineers so we got the pulse approved but not the V-downs.
