Timing Belt Snapped - Motor still good?
Sup guys, my fricken timing belt snapped on my d15b2 last week on the way to a a car show. I was going about 55 - 65mph when it happened. Do you guys think I have a good chance of the head being okay? I was going to buy a timing belt and put it on, time and stuff. Just want to see if its worth it, or just buy a new motor or head. Let me know your thoughts. thanks!
best thing to do is take the head off and check the valves and pistons i snapped 3 timing belts on my ZC before anything really bad happened
The only way you are going to know for sure is if you physically take off the head and inspect everything. The only other way I can even think of that would still make sense without disassembling anything is to install a new belt and do a compression test. If any of the valves are bent, you'll be able to tell by a low or zero reading on that particular cylinder.
What you can do is set the crank to tdc and then turn it 45 degrees so all the pistons will not be in the upmost position. Then you can rotate the cam (or cam's) and see if you still have valve adjustment clearances. If you have a bent valve it will stick open and you should see a huge valve clearance.
If all look good when turning the cam, throw a belt on it and hope for the best.
I just snapped mine a couple of weeks ago doing 30mph in third. I got lucky and had none bent.
I will pray for you!

I have often thought there had to be a way to check without removing the head. I couldn't come up with one besides a compression check, but this will give you atleast some idea BEFORE you even put the timing belt back on. this is great info..

put the car on TDC
take off the valve cover
loosen up the caps for the cam, that way all the valves are close
remove spark plugs
do a compression test
If you do a compression test with out loosing up the cam you are going to bend all the valves that are open.
