Default Outer window seal (1990 CRX SI)

Hi guys, I bought my CRX project last month and there's a pretty nasty water leak from the drivers side door. I took the door panel off and sprayed the side of the car with water and noticed water was coming in from the outer window seal. Theres a small gap between the mirror and the seal and water enters through there as well as other spots along the seal. I'm ordereding new seals for both sides (noticed theres the same problem on the passenger side too), but why is there the gap? Is a piece missing or something?

Crappy pic, sorry.

Thanks!!

Do you have a more zoomed out picture? Im having a hard time visualizing that part on my car. Only thing i can think of is you dont have the outer door trim peice, the part that runs across the length of the door where it meets the window, along the bottom edge. But i think you would notice that, as there would be a huge gap between the door and the window, and that would be more likely where your water leak is coming from.

Zoomed out, you can see the gap between the seal and where the mirror meets the door

Water leaks along the inside and outside of the door and comes out from the bottom of the door panel and speaker hole

The rust spot it caused

Sorry about the quality again, my parents took the digi cam on vacation so that leaves me with a cell phone camera and LED work light

Thanks

the crazy thing is....that....your door is intended for water to get into...thats why on the underside of the door are leakage holes....if these get clogged up (like most do over time) water will stand and cause rust spots.

need to make sure u clean out them holes!

Man thanks so much for the reply! Is this what the drains look like?

I think I've figured it out. The problem might not be the seal, its that I'm missing the vapor barrier. Water is probably coming in, running down the outside part (of the inside) of the door and comming out of the speaker hole as well as behind the door panel and the water sits between the plastic piece in the door jamb and the metal causing it to rust. If the drain is what I took the picture of, it looks like the water drains on to the plastic and away from the metal. I think..

I dont think youre missing a peice of that trim, but it does look like its sitting too far back. Water shouldnt be leaking by that, it should be tight to the glass all the way across.

I'll replace the seals when they arrive, make a new vapor barrier and clean out the drains and I'll post what happens!

Thanks a lot!

that is a drain yes...there should be like 3 or 4 on the bottom, make sure they are open and clean... not a bad idea to even stick a vacuum down in the door and clean it out if you can wedge it down that far.
