"HELP NEEDED" 88 Honda CRX SI Air Conditioning
I have a 1988 Civic CRX SI that I would like to put air conditioning in. Does anyone out there have a very good used or new complete system for sale or know where I might get one???? Thanks, Steve
I actually have the full AC setup from a 90 crx si that I was parting out some time ago. If it'll work for you let me know and I'll rip the rest of it out (just the lines) and send you some pics. I do know that one line may be bent from when I removed the engine.
Jdmtru, What year CRX did the air conditioning system come out of? Do you think it still works? How much do you want for it? Will I need to get anything else to complete my system? Thanks, Steve
Booz, I'll have to check and see if a 90 CRX system is the same as a 88? Do you have the complete system? Do you think it still works? Thanks, Steve
I do know that when I took it out the air blew out fine. As for it being cold it just needed to have the freon changed in it. I bought an 89 with the exact same problem and all I had to do was take the freon from when the car was manufactured out and put the new (R132 maybe?) in it. Not sure on the numbers as I had to have my mechanic handle the freon.
Edit:
I'm not sure if 90 is compatible with 88, but if it is let me know.

The 1988-1991 CRX uses a Sanden TR70 (or Matsushita). Anyway, here's a technical article from the Sanden U.S.A. website that outlines the procedure for a r134a conversion:

There's multitudes of EF's in my local junkyard with A/C. The whole setup could be had for around 100 bucks. Then 100 bucks for the honda dealer to evac and recharge it.
