How to change clip ons?
I have an 03' RC51. I was wondering what I have to do to take the clip ons off? I think I know but want to check with you guys. Do you take the triple clamp off the top by loosing the screws and the center nut and pulling it off the forks?
Thats what it looks like but wanting to make sure thats the best or only way to do it.
Thanks,
Nick

I had to use a triple-tree stand to hold up the triple while loosening the fork clamps. Then, you can slide the forks down so they aren't in the upper triple. You can then remove the clip ons. It's definitely easier with the front wheel removed first.

Yeah those just fold right on there but I have the OEM clip ons I need to remove first before I can get new ones on there and the easiest thing I see is taking the bolt loose on either fork on the triple clamp and the big center nut (hid in the pics you posted under the steering dampener).
But not sure if you have to take that wheel off and remove the forks or not. I hope not cause I don't have a wheel stand. lol

I don't think taking off the center nut is any easier.
If you are loosening the forks at all from the triple, you will want the forks to be unweighted. Otherwise, they will slide up through the triple. You might be able to use tiedowns and hang the bike by the frame from rafters...but it might be easier to borrow someone's stands.
FWIW, it's called a damper, not dampener. One dampens oscillations. The other gets things wet.

Well my left one is broke or something when I bought the bike, i didn't pay attention to it not having a bar end on the left side and the inside is broke or something and won't hold a bar end so just wanting to change them out.

Yea, I'm not sure, but i don't know anyone with bikes that has the stands. No one around here has them, just kickstands the bikes. Most the guys around here are young and just doesn't have them..lol But yea I have rafters in my shop that we use to lift engines into cars using a chain fall so that might would work.
Damper, dampener..its all the same..lol jk im tired..been a long few days.

The bike has two triple clamps.
Pull off the top triple clamp, really, this isn't rocket science. That upper nut isn't on super tight. It will come off easily with a cresent wrench.

My old F4i had the same issue. Luckily the weighted piece inside the bar can be replaced. Only around $10 I think and would save you lots versus buying a set of clipons. Just a thought.

That nut is fairly soft, so I'd use a fitted socket. Adjustable wrenches like to round off nuts, so be careful with this one.

I'll sell you a set of stock 954 clipons. They have a little more raise than the factory RC51 clipons, but they're still pretty down swept, so it's aggressive.
Here, you can see how tall they are. They're 50mm clipons, so they should fit:

Not if you dont loosen the lower triple clamp.
Remove top triple, remove clip ons. Easy, should take 30 minutes.
