Jason Hunt Running IHRA President's Cup this Weekend
3-Time Pro Front Wheel Drive Champ, Jason Hunt,
Bringing the Matco Tools Chevy Cobalt to IHRA’s President’s Cup
Budd’s Creek, MD- Jason Hunt and Charlie Schafer Industries are bringing their 200 mph, tube chassis, front-wheel drive, 4 cylinder Ecotec powered Chevy Cobalt out to play in Top Sportsman this weekend.
Hunt, who is the reigning NOPI PRO FWD Champion and currently sits 3rd in points, is trying his hand competing against rear wheel drive, 8 cylinder, door slammers before heading out to Denver, CO next week. Maryland International Raceway is Hunt and team owner, Schafer’s home track and they were really excited when the race could work into their schedule.
Hunt has never raced the Matco Tools Chevy Cobalt on a .500 handicap tree before, so qualifying will be a little bit of a learning curve. They will also be competing with limited electronics keeping the car legal for their next race.
“We will be happy to even qualify. The field will be large and fast, hopefully we can fall somewhere in the middle. I can’t wait to mix it up next to the rear wheel drive cars. I think some of the other competitors will be surprised at what 130 cubic inches can actually do.” informed Hunt.

I've been waiting FOREVER for Sport Compact teams to start attending more mainstream races, such as this one. Couldn't happen for a better team, and I'll be rooting for you to take out the V-8 contingent. We were thinking of attending some Top Sportsman races this year as well. Good luck and kick some ***!!!!!

Good luck guys.. I wish I could be in the crowds to see the look on the spectators faces when some "ricer burner" clicks off a 200+mph pass
