ok so this has been a on going problem for the last 8 months...one day i was driving to work and i hear a noticable ticking/grinding noise but no CEL came on. at about day 10 of this noise the CEL finnally came on and i got it checked. it was misfiring in all 4 cylinders and a random misfire. One day i was driving home on the freeway and the CEL started blinking and the car had absolutly not power to it, i finally had to pull over and shut off the car because it was sputtering REALLLLY BAD..after about 2 min of giving it a break i turned it back on and the CEL was still on, but it wasnt blinking. I left it at my mechanic for 2 days and they checked everything...plugs, wires, distributor, fuel pump, electrical...ect and no one could figure out what the hell is going on..The car idles really bad and sometimes dies when iam stopped....i talked to a guy at honda and he said it sounds like a EGR valve problem, but ive heard that my car doesnt have a EGR valve??? anyone have any clues or if i do have a egr valve, where is it!!!! iam getting a pretty good carbon build up on my rear bumper from the exhaust, iam sure its related to the CEL... my car just went over 124k and i get the usual maintence as planed.

Had the same misfire code on my 97 accord. I tried replacing several things, dizzy, rotor, plugs and wires, injectors all with no luck. I started researching what could be causing this and came across the EGR valve issue. Before I replace that I decided to see if the EGR ports were plugged, which they were. I cleaned out my EGR ports, cleaned up the valve, seems to be working now.

Hope this helps, but my car was acting differently. It idled fine, ran fine when I was accelerating, etc. The only problem I noticed is when I was cruising along around 2-3K RPM (didn't matter the speed, just the rpm range). Then the car would hesitate, like it was misfiring. As soon as I accelerated, it went back to running normal...

 

EGR valve??? i thought that 2000 civic EX's didnt have them??? if i did have one, where the hell would it be, i did a search for it, but nothing really comes up???

 

it would be on the #4 intake port on the intake manifold, can't miss it.

 

ok...so its not the EGR valve....i dont have one.......anyone else have any ideas on what it could be????? any ideas are better than no ideas!!!
