Default Gas mileage is sucking!

Filled up today.. 26 miles per gallon. City/highway mix. I have an 05 EX. Wtf???

The car only has 43k miles on it. I should note that it's a rebuilt and I just bought it. I bought it specifically for gas mileage purposes.

I know I'm gonna get the usual change your spark plug air filter fuel filter answer but should those really need replacing for a 3 year, 43k year old car?

well make sure your air pressure is up on your tires, about 35 psi

gas is getting expensive these days man... i heard it will be $5 by the end of summer!!

do you drive it hard? my wife says there is a definite difference in mileage/gas between her and i. she drives easy on the gas i punch it. A/C is also a factor.

Yea the spark plugs and air filter will definitely make a difference. Get NGK Iridiums and a K&N drop-in filter and you should see a nice gain in mpg. Take it easy on the accelerator too lol... 5 speed manual tranny?

I think mythbusters debunked the whole A/C story about worse mpg. When you roll the windows down, you create more drag thus decreasing mpg.

A/C will cause you to get slightly less MPG...I think 15% less was the Mythbusters calculation...spark plugs, air filter, regular oil changes, techron, and tire pressure are things that can affect your gas mileage. The number 1 thing that can affect your gas mileage would be your driving style (take it easy on the gas pedal, drive the speed limit (40-55MPG is ideal speed), coast as much as you can (in gear for better MPG), trying using A/C only when you are coasting in gear with your foot off the gas, there's ALL kinds of driving methods to get better gas mileage. Mythbuster's didn't vary speed in that experiment. I would imagine, at higher speeds, say above 55 mph, that would be true, but around town, opening the window doesn't use more gas than turning the AC on.

26 mpg isn't too bad. I would say do the following, which most have already said;

1)tire pressure
2)fuel/air filters (check to make sure they are still good)
3)drive a bit more sanely.

Here on the east coast of Canada we're already paying over $5 a gallon, about $5.40 by my calc, its $1.428 a litre here now, and its been above $1.20/lt for the last 6 months or more, and the general speculation here is that it'll hit $1.60 by end of summer, which is over $6 a gallon for you. I would absolutly love to pay $4 a gallon for gas here, thats like a buck 05, lol

anyway i was getting not as high km's per tank lately, check the air filter, clean as a whistle(only 3 months old), changed the spark plugs, i check my tire pressure weekly and i never exceed 5000 km's betweem oil changes, using the same gas i always use. anyway long story short i through a bottle of Fuel Injector cleaner in my last tank and let it run through, it starts much easier now in the mornings and so far i'm getting the same km's/tank as i was once used to.
