Hatch owners!! I am running a 12 inch Punch now, I like sound quality not SPL type, I am going to Memhis audio subs when I return. I am seeing a lot more 10 inch subs in cars now and I plan on incoperating my spare tire compartment and the Nitous Bottle also. Got any views or pics. Maybe some glass enclosures??
Thanx in advance for your opinions and pics or links.

You should seriously consider Image Dynamics IDMAX subs for SQ with SPL when you still want it...
Also consider Infinity Perfect in a sealed box, it's toatally a sq sub that still packs decent spl, just stick to the RMS!!!Oh yea, I personally like the sound of the 12"s much better than the 10s they provide a little more "depth"

it really depends on the model number/equipment your going w/ but I'd go w/ 12's (actually I did 3 of them Lolz.. yeah I like "hit") I like the sound/tightness produced from 12's in a sealed box...
ID, Infinity Perfect, JL Audio 12W6, Kicker Solobaric and Alpine Type R are some pretty good subs

3 12's that seems almost overwhelming. I would need 6 ohms correct to make it a 2 ohm load. Also I dont really use the trunk space (Hatch) But I need room for the nos and I have the strut brace. I would need to get a new AMP too and problablysome components for the rear 6x9's. I already have some JVC's better components for the front.
How much do the infinity's run?

sorry man I don't have a digital camera ANYMORE thanks to my friend that lost it on our ski trip = ( there goes almost a G = (... but yeah I have strut bar too, and my trunk is called the passenger seat or footwell (when I don't have a passenger), or the rear seats/footwell when I do have a front passenger..

was it a basic drop in box or the false floor? I am thinking maybe a false floor. still deciding on 3 10's or 2 12's. But thanks for the input. Do hatches sound off as good if the sub fires up insted of back?
12s would give you a little more option as far as Hertz or however you spell it. You can barely notice the difference between the same name brand and model if you had two of each. I personally would go with one really powerful 10 and one amp for the best results (for weight and sound)
IF you want realy nice quality sound go with a Focal Sub, or even a couple of 8 or 10 inch MB Quarts. Alpine Typr R's will also do nicely, same with MTX 6000 or 8000 series 10's
You always have the option 8 or 10... 8's will be cleaner, but they wont hit as low as 10's..... and 10's dont exactly hit that low and hard..... are you ok with giving that up for quality.. As for me, yea
1 way to solve that is to throw in 2x the ammount of 8's as you would have 10's. 2 10's or 4 8's... which would you go with......
Dont go with Infinity, theyer subs like theyer speakers sound muffled to me.
Dont go JL either, deffeniatly good speakers, but MTX is cheaper and offers better quality sound with lower power demands, will they hit and hard. no.
But the Sub realy isnt the most important part.
Be sure you get one hell of a box. SEALED INCLOSER ONLY!!!! you port it, you might as well stick in a 15". You just threw your quality out the window and **** on it.
I'd say go online pick up a single Type R Alpine 10 for like 150$ (www.onlinecarstereo.com), then go some where like EarMark Car Audio and have them build you a bad *** box. IF you can afford it get 2 10's
But then again wha do I know, just my 2 cntz

The SpeakerWorks GN that is now owned by Richard Clark used a simple 6 speaker setup....Horns, 12" Midbasses, and 15" woofers....it's one of the most successful and best sounding competition cars ever. But here's a novel idea...the mids were ported and the 15's were AP'ed...nothing in the car was in a sealed enclosure. Earl Zausmer used 13" midbasses/woofers in his SQ BMW 5-series as well...they were mounted in an IB config...it's about how you set things up that matters. Cars that were this successful in IASCA certainly had excellent mid and sub bass characteristics.
If you build the box correctly and the sub is well suited for a ported box it can sound better then many sealed setups I have heard. I ran a single IDQ 12" PORTED and it rocked...it sounded as good, but with better low end, then it did sealed. Hell I would take one IDQ15 or 15W6 over most pairs of 10" woofers out there.
I would encourage people to try ported designs rather then to give into these myths. It can't hurt to spend one afternoon with some wood and give it a shot.

Teken...I couldn't agree more...I'm in this category.
I hate it when people make blanket statements, such as ported enclosures sound sloppy, and 15's are only for booming....these are not facts, but myths.
If those who are serious about music, will try both types and will apply all the proper techniques to establish correct tonal response and tighter imaging and accurate bass reproduction...

interesting advice from tekken. I want quality, I am a little older. Sure I oke a little boom and the attention it recieves, But It is also nice to sit back and listen to some real involved music and hear evrything intended for consumption. I like the kick in the back when I am lisening to rock and the Acoustic resonance of the woofer when nelly is asking for a ride. I think two quality 10's will do it in a sealed box. (hatches sound better with sealed) Thanks for the input.
I love my two 10" Kicker Comp's. One positive that I can think of when using 10"s is usually (not always) they don't need as much amp power. If you are on a budget (like I am), you can get away with smaller amps and wattage by using tens. Just depends on what your budget is.

I did three JL Audio 12w'6 in the trunk of my old 98 integra. I made a fiberglass enclosure in the spare tire area which bolted to the box above it. Giving me 6 ft^3 of air space. This box had three ports. I gave it to a friend when I bought the X, I will see if I can get a photo for you. It doesn't really fit in his car because his is a 91 integra. You should be able to get the idea though.

I am thinking 3 10s now, I am planning on building a false floor with amp visible ampn enclosures. Vented to allow cooling and a compartment for the Nitrous bottle. Do hatches sound as good with the speakers facing up? It would make it the easiest to fabricate, if not I will need to angle them slightly backwards. Stil hoping for a pic, I got one in a magazine, but it wasnt a hatch.
Thanks fellas
