Best way for Double Din in EF civic = crx dash swap?
As the topic says...I would really like a DD headunit in my EF hatch. Is the CRX dash swap the only way to do this and look somewhat clean?.
Definatekly NOT.
There is an optional audio console for your civic. It looks like the oem crx console except it isn't angled toward the driver. Someone will chime in with a picture of this. You can put the double din in there

Thank for the info, guys. As for the optional console for the civic, was it only made for the JDM guys? (per the qoute)

Or are we lucky enought that the EDM guys got this as well, and a LHD version exists?

That's what popped into my head after reading your post, but it looks like HVAC and single din, no?

I think that is the single din with the JDM/EDM optional lower pocket. Thanks for the reference.

I pulled one from the local junkyard last year, LHD and had a single din on the bottom where the ashtray/lighter is. I figure if you can find one (goodluck) you can somehow relocate the heater/ac controls to the optional piece and do the double din up top.

I searched some more and found an old thread...

No one answered, so I guess no one has tried this yet, but I have heard of EG consoles working...along with the better fitting DC and EK

The optional lower console
Install instructions...anyone see an obvious problem?

Really? The pic is for an EG, but I think it would fit with trimming and whatnot

I don't think it's gonna work in a hatch. The only double din I have seen for a single electronics unit is in the CRX.
The problem with the civic is that you remove the ashtray part of the console and then attach the optional piece that connects the console to the plastic shifter housing. That optional piece has only one din space..enough for a glove box, or equalizer/radio.
Here is how I did mine.

So IMO, YES the only way you're gonna get a clean looking double din setup in your hatch is to do a CRX dash swap...unless an aftermarket company makes a special kit for the hatch(which I have never seen).
Good Luck!
