b16 not starting after upgraded cams? Please look, weird problem...
I just bought a 91 crx with a jdm b16a, 450 injectors, cp high comp pistons, port and polished head, shaved for higher compression, aftermarket springs and retainers, and skunk 2 stage 2 cams. Running obd1, no CEL.
When I first got it, I had to press the gas and let it crank for about 10 seconds then it starts. If it didn't start that way, I will have to disconnect the coolant temp sensor and it will start. I've already changed it twice and still the same. So I tough it was a timing isuse and I re-time it a few times to TDC, how it previously was. Now it won't start at all unless I push start it? Plus it won't stay idle, if I let off the gas it will stall.
Previous owner/builder said it was street tuned by Chrome for ITR cams, and he saids after he put in the new cams it's been acting up. Might I need a new tune? Or can I put in ITR cams and see what happens? Please help, only car I got.

I know these injectors are too big for this setup, but they were tuned for the setup. I've tried stock injectors and stock ECU, still the same thing.

you prob just need a retune. put it on the dyno and tune it.

like he said...your timing is probably off...and that gas smell, everytime you crank, the injectors fire, so you're probably flooding it

So why would it smell like gas with the stock injectors too? Should I retard/advance my cam gears?

NO, you should take it to a dyno and get it tuned. Christ, is this NEW information to you guys?!?!?!

I just don't want to spend all this money on tunning it, and it doesn't fix my problem. Just trying to get info, ok.

then swap back to stock cams and see if it runs better.. if it doesnt then you have another problem..
if it does run the way it should with the stock cams then put the skunk 2 cams back in and tune it....
and do a tune up on it.. new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter.. etc.. u might as well. i'm sure those plugs are beat.

They were, I changed them yesterday.
I push started the car and drove it around the block, and like it always it wants to stall..and I noticed it has no power under 3k, like its bogging bad.

like i said it sounds like it needs a tune. you are running pretty big injectors with big cams.. you need a tune. but to be sure its the cams you can switch back to the stock cams and see if it runs fine..
even switching back to stock injectors with the same tune could make it run like garbage. if its tuned for stock cams and 450cc injectors!!!
regardless of what you do you are going to need a tune.. unless you want to have a blown up motor... running too rich or too lean is a recipe for engine failure...
Expensive failure..
Good luck!

cool. good luck.. i wouldn't drive it until you get it tuned... driving it like that can hurt it even more...
and take a spare set of sparkplugs to the dyno with you. better to have them on hand if you need them. be prepared.. make sure you have no leaks or anything that will make them stop the dyno.. it would suck to have to pay and not even get to tune...
good luck and post up the results...
