what does it mean when my motor is knocking

It means you need to install a doorbell.

Sounds like you need to rebuild the motor, probably will throw a rod soon. Might also be low on oil. Which leads to premature wear and then knocking before the final kaboom.

I giggled like a little girl at that.

Possible could be your pistons? you need to open your hood and check it out. See exactly where it is coming from. Could be bad motor mounts, pistons, there are a few things that could cause that.
