How do i install a switch to Radiator fan ?
i saw one...keep searching. btw, is the fan working now, or not at all?? it is very easy to hook up a switch to the factory relay.

yeah every thing still works ..i connect the fan directly to the key ignition ..so when i turn it on it comes on ..but i only want to turn it on when i need it ...!!??
wire the fan motor directly back to the stock power and ground sources. then cut and extend the wires for the factory fan switch, and run them into the dash into a switch in the cab. its simple. i'll show you.

Yes, you can use that. but if you dont know how a simple circuit works( think 7th grade science
) you shouldnt be touching it at all.

tools needed:
soldering iron/torch
electrical solder
soldering flux (if you want to do it right)
shrinkwrap( again, if you want to do it right)
switch of your choice
terminals for the switch
dremel/ other cutting tool (depending on where you place the switch)
roughly an hour
its really not that hard. allright. you want your fan motor wired up in a STOCK form. at least running off the stock power and ground. of course if you have an aftermarket fan, you will sometimes need to cut the connector off of the stock fan motor and solder it onto the aftermarket unit. but still, use factory power and ground sources. like this:

now, find the fan plug and disconnect the plug from it:

cut the connector off the harness, and leave yourself adequet slack in case you decide to use it again. stash your pigtail in a safe spot and label it. solder some wire extensions into these two bare wires and run them into the cab. i used the hole where the throttle cable comes through the firewall, but there are many other, cleaner ways to pull this off. like this:

then you pick any switch of your style and crimp on some terminals (obviously ones that are compatible with your switch and fit snug) to the end of your wire extensions. pick a place for your switch and mount it. i used a dremel-like tool to cut into one of the "blanks" next to my sunroof switch. remember to start cutting small and dead center as you can get it. use a vice and some safety glasses. like this:

tada!! now you have complete control of your fan(s). remember to watch your engine temp. and asure that it is accurate. I only did this because i didn't like how hot the fan switch closed.
position of the wiring does not matter AT the switch because the circuit is simply open or closed.
there are many different ways of doing this. but imo, this is the easiest and cheapest. do your research and enjoy.
i hope i don't have to say this but nobody on this board is responisble for the damage done to your car.
feel free to shash this post somewhere!

dude, the guy above you just gave you one.
1. Disconnect fan plug from the side of the block.
2. Cut the plug off and you'll now have two exposed wires.
3. Pay close attention here: Get about 10 feet of 12 gauge wire, cut it in half, and now you'll have two wires. Take one wire and solder it to one of the wires that used to connect to the plug. Repeat for the other wire.
4. Run wires through firewall into the cabin.
5. Connect wires to a switch mounted somewhere in the cabin.
What are you having trouble understanding?

Look where he put this (now, find the fan plug and disconnect the plug from it
it could be any plug ..he didnt say the specific one ...

did you not see the picture? It's a brown plug on the left side of the motor, above the tranny.

aye dude my fan is connect directly to my key ignition ..so when i turn on my car it starts...how do i start from there ???
ok so you want your fan to be on the whole time when you turn your key to acc?
anyways, you can just jump your coolant temperature switch. simple just grab a wire and splice the two wires coming from the switch. done

See the green is connect to ground and the red is connected to Key ignition ...
<br/>
the only reason why i connect directly because the stock wires for the fan dont work its cutted off some where under the motor or behind it and i cant find were its is... too long ...SO HOW DO I CONNECT A SWITCH >>WHEN I ALREADY DID A DIRECT CONNECT ???? ....

where exactly is your positve + fan wire going?? NOT directly to the ignition switch i hope. you need a RELAY in there...either the factory one or universal aftermarket. and it should be FUSED. if you don't at least use a relay you will burn up switches and maybe catch fire...with the toggle switch or your ignition switch!
i think the plug he is showing you is the temperature switch for the fan. i would NOT cut that thing off...you can add a switch to the factory relay wiring and keep the stock fan setup. it may or may not cause the check engine light to come on, but if it does you just need to add your own relay.
if this all sounds like a foreign language, you should read up some more about the car and relays before you change anything. good luck

Most of the time people are putting a small switch before the relay that goes to the fan. A relay is a switch that handles a lot of amps, and allows a smaller low-amp switch to control it. The fan uses a lot of amps, and that will burn up a little switch. A relay bears the load of the amps for it. The stock relay is hanging on the inner fender near your passenger headlight.
I think you should try to get it back to stock condition. Did you ever find out what was wrong in the first place?

the stock condition the wires dont work ...cus i test it out with the meter thingy no light came up...can you show a picute of the relay or what ever ....cus i install the switch and it work but i dont want to burn up ....or how do i install a fuse with the switch

then maybe your fan switch was bad. i seriously do not suggest that you bury problems with hack jobs. find out why the fan motor is not getting voltage. jumper the wires together going into the fan switch. and see if voltage is present where it's supposed to be, at the stock power source for the fan motor. if not, then test both fan switch wires for voltage. if no voltage is present then use a schematic to work your way back to find the voltage drop. it's easier than it sounds.
but i will in no way support half-***-ism, so if you want to risk your wiring harness catching fire, i'll leave that up to you.

i dont want that to happen ..so whats the best way for me ...if the stock wires dont work ?? should install a fuse ?? or anything

like i said. hood up everything like it just came from the factory. find out why it doesn't work, and then make it work. then instead of the automatic fan switch on the back of the block, run the two wires going into the fan switch into a switch wherever you please.
i am in no way an electrician, so just start troubleshooting
