Default crankshaft bolt removal

I just bought a 01 civic. I wanted to change the timing belt. How the hell do you get the crank pulley bolt out. Holy hell 181ft lbs. the manual says! My impact doesn't touch it and I broke my strap wrench trying to hold the pulley. Is there a secret?

thanks! Any idea how much the tool costs? I suppose the Honda dealer wants a fortune to change the belt.

The tool is about 50 bucks.... Its pretty well worth it if you plan on doing it multiple times. Autozone may rent it, but you'd have to call.

Tools are good, and that one definitely saves some frustration.

Honda wanted $87.00 for the tool, I checked e-bay and found Kd tools sells the holder part number 3970. This place sells it for $35.00.

yea, you always want to change the water pump while you're there. you also want to replace the timing belt tensioner. and since you'll be removing the valve cover, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a new gasket. There are also 2 o-rings that go on the water pipe that runs behind the block. Boilermaker and I have seen those leak..NEW, so you know they're weak. and one end of said tube goes into the water pump.
