Default tang or heim for aftermarket radius rod

would a tang be stronger than a heim joint? (and cheaper)

would it give me the motion of play needed? seems so

thanks

I think it would be very hard to build a system that doesnt bind using tangs. Heim joints are what you need.

And if you hate heims, like me, the johnnie joint might be a legit alternative..

You hate heim joints? Its a component--I could see hating it for certain applications, but hating the actual unit itself?

Problem is that Johnny Joints, in their smallest size, is 3/4"-16 thread. That's big.

A Johnny Joint (QA1 is releasing their Rock End next month which are similar, may come in a smaller size) is basically a hiem joint combined with a poly bush. It has a higher misalignment than a heim (around 40 degrees or more), and can handle higher shocks / jaring. It also will absorb road noise.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'tang'. If it is just basically a clevis/rod/eye/bracket, its not going to work because the radius rod needs to move on more than one axis.

If this is for a street car, you probably could use a self lubricating chromoly heim (2 piece would save some money), probably 5/8" shaft. It would be around $15 each.

You could just use a spherical bearing instead of the rubber bushings and use the original rod end.

Johnny Joints are about $40 and they should be stronger (maybe not in static, but certainly in shock). I'm using it on a project, ordered some so we'll see how they work.

Summit Racing has a pretty good selection of QA1 units.
