Default Neptune-RTP and Tunerview

Hi guys,

So I have a 92 CX hatch with a JdmH22a in the bay and have greddy headers going into a apex Ws2 exaust with a goofy *** adapter to make them fit together... That's what im working with.

So any of you use the NeptuneRTP and what do you think about it? same with tunerview.. from what I read is that it really offers no tuneability addons just a handy display for various sensors.

I'm located in Portland Oregon and need to get this hatch to pass emissions is there any possible tricks I can perform with multiple map's once I get a hold of neptune interms of messing with ignition timing or AF ratio's at a certian rpm to pass emissions? the apex ws2 looks like its almost a catalytic converter "sorta" or any sort of fuel additives I can add to the gas to get less emissions?

One idea I had was to get a hold of an EGR valve and once you hold the rpm's up crack the egr valve so it recirculates ... Granted the EGR valve is suppose to only open at cruise above a certain rpm exct..

the Other question I had was comparing the stock p13 map to one that's been tweaked a bit what kind of gains if any can one theoretically expect from modifying an existing map "10-15hp" ?? and is it something like add a bit of timing, change vtec crossover to a lower rpm engagement point, and add a bit of fuel or subtract a bit of fuel here and there...

I suppose later I wouldn't mind getting a set of cams knowing i can tune it after the fact is also a plus.

you tune the engine to what it wants, not what you think it wants. This requires either tinkering with the system until you figure out what works and what doesnt or go into it knowing how to do it.

put it on the dyno to determine the vtec crossover and to fine tune the ignition timing. If you dont want to pay for dyno time, street tuning and spark plug analysis come in handy.

RTP is a great product with stellar customer service. The learning curve is a little steep if you dont understand the terminology but James has a help file that explains damn near everything about the system, how to get started and how to use it.

yeah, Well Ive played with dsmlink and understand the theories and such and what to listen and read the results... curves can be learned..

It was the basic idea to tune emissions though maybe a quick load this map, pass emissions then load another map for drive ability... if you get my drift.

thanks

It shouldn't be too hard to pass emissions.

HRTuning --- Yeah what kind's of things would you do with the fueling/timing to run cleaner?... less fuel?? more ignition advancement/retard what kinds of tweaks would one do?

this is all theoretical values here an example would be good if you have one though

In my position today I can't actually suggest things for you to do to get by emissions, but I have tuned cars to pass in the past for local shops and it's not very difficult to do.

The only real way to do is it to get the passing values for your state, and then hook up to a 5 gas analyzer and tweak until you hit those values that make you pass.

allright,

So if you say got those values would they be so catastrophic you couldnt want to run them for very long IE drive up, switch map pass, change back to other map..?

In NJ, they test at 0 mph and 20 mph...so you should want to run these values all the time if you were able to bring your car into passing specs.

hah well i guess everyone seems to be dancing around the topic and not really answering my question about how to tune for it and some basic theories behind what you actually do for tuning for emissions passing without a cat.

can someone give me an example of the car runs this timing this fuel at xyz rpm and this AF you changed it to this timing and this fuel and it has this AF now and yada yada...

and even how it affects performance if someone even has this type of info this is what im looking for.

Thanks.

No one is dancing around anything...no one can tell what to do on your car, except, find out what the sniffer wants to see and make it see THAT by adding or removing fuel and adding or removing timing.

you missed the point of my question "not to be a smart ***" its " in theory " what would one do its not like im one of thoes idiots who wants a power adder map generically made for a b16 or some other nonsense... or take someone elses map and expect it to perform the exact same on my engine..

I realize every engine is different which is why im asking the question in theory what someone would do.. I ask because I don't know these things

hope that helps clear up any confusion..

no point missed here...without a 5 gas analyzer, you are shooting blanks in the dark while making changes.

theory, get your AFRs steady at 14.7 and get timing set correctly...you might pass, you might not...
