Default Repairing GSR Crankshaft

Have been having a pretty annoying vibration/noise for quite some time after getting my crank pulley replaced by a mechanic, and today decided to take it apart w/ a friend helping me out, and found out what the problem was:

and the terrible jimmy-rigged key they made

... I know I can buy a new key for like 3$...

...but is there any machine shop that can fix the key hole on the end of the crank? Or am I looking at getting a new/used crank?

Thanks.

ouch man, holy crap dude. And that is why I don't like letting other people work on my car.

Not sure if that's repair-able or not.

IMO, that cannot be fixed. There is nothing to machine since the metal is missing. You could weld and then machine, but you would lose the tempering of the metal. Just buy a new crankshaft.

And send that shop the bill for the crankshaft while you're at it.

Oh, they'll be hearing from me early next week. Don't you worry about that.

Since you and your friend took it apart, there is no way you can prove that the shop installed that key. It'll be your word against theirs in court. Good luck.

Ah, I wasn't going to take them to court, haha...would cost more in lawyers fees than it's worth. Just going to make sure he knows I'm not happy..hopefully he'll cut me a deal, I've brought numerous cars to him, and always pay him what it's worth. He means well, hopefully he'll understand.

I don't really think they installed the wrong key or modified it, I think they didn't torque the bolt down tight enough and when you started up the motor the loose pulley caused the key to damage the crank, either way, good luck resolving the matter.

Most likely they lost the key when they pulled the crank pulley off, and then just stuck in something they had laying around.

Just because the bolt is loose should not make that happen.

BTW, that wouldn't cause a vibration or noise as long as the crank pulley is bolted down tight.

The pulley doesn't seat correctly because of their wonderful key :-P The engine is all out of balance
