Default random single cam question....

I was just wondering if anyone has converted a d16y7 (sohc non-vtec) to a y8, if so did you use the same timing belt AND are the blocks/pistons the same. I just figured since the y7's are non-vtec (correct me if i'm wrong) they would have lower compression bottom ends which is better for boost without building the motor.

Thank guys, sorry I didn't really find any info on the subject of y7 to y8 swaps.

are you asking if you want to do a mini me with a Y7 block and a Y8 head, then yeah you can do it... thats what i have in my car... you need to wire VTEC, since im assuming your car is not an EX...

Well yeah I know I can do it, I was just wondering what timing belt you ran and if anyone knew if the Y7 bottom ends were lower compression.

Oh one last thing did you run just keep the y7 oil pump on or did you change it to a y8. (if theres even a difference).

Stock Y7 t-belt, and oil pump will work fine.

Doing the head swap actually RAISES compression slightly. And whether it's lower or higher compression has nothing to do with whether it's better for turbocharging or not. Lower compression allows you to boost more, but you can make just as much power with lower boost on a higher compression engine than with more boost on a lower compression engine. Reliability comes from the tune, maintenance, and parts you use.
