Im getting an occasional pop and puff of smoke from my 1.5 to B16A VTEC Transplant. I want to check timing but not sure of settings or if I have to ground connector to check. My VTEC will not kick in also. I bought this car running with complete Japan Vtec and 5 speed manual trans ( automatc swap) installed with Vtec engine computor but not with bugs worked out. Check engine light is on and some wires at computor have been spliced. My Dads friend put a lot of work in this CRX and has done a lot of swaps and just was not interested in finishing it and wanted it out of his garage for cheap.

 

First thing you should do is to check your codes. If you still have an OBD0 computer, there should be a red light right in the center of it. Turn your key switch to the ON position. Count how many times the red light flashes. If you search you can find a step-by-step on how to retrieve fault codes. Try getting the codes and we go from there.
