Default Exhaust with no CAT. Good or bad.

I have a megan racing muffler turns out I am gonna have to have the pip custom fabricated. The gentleman at the shop offered to remove my cat. I would like to know is that good or bad. I am of course not just doing this for sound. I would also like to know what a good cold air intake would be and do for my car. Obviously a short ram won't do me justice since I have been reading on here alot more. Thanks in advance.

::Edit::

I have heard that it was bad for not cat, but then again I am not sure. I may also add my O2 sensors will still be in place on the fabrication.

Well, as far as I can tell, removing your cat is going to free up the flow of your exhaust, thus more hp. However there is no way you can pass a smog test for inspection if youre in say California or Texas. It will make it slightly louder as well.

I think the best route to go is to figure out how to get a cat installed that can be unbolted. Then you could switch it out with a test pipe that matches the size of your exhaust pipes. That at least is what I am trying to figure out how to do right now.

the guy will gladly take the cat off your hands and sell it for scrap for $$

keep it. your car will smell like sh*t with out it. you have a good chance of throwing codes too.

i have a test pipe in my 4th gen prelude with cai, i does make it loader, it does add more hp, but it does not make any extra smells. also you will see a lot more carbon build up on your muffler. if you have emissions testing keep it, but besides that it does attract more attention from the piggies.

h23siaws, do you have a cat that bolts on or did you just scrap it. Also, I agree about the smells. As long as it's not dumping under the cab there shouldn't be anything to smell.

The smell is for people behind you or if you are sitting still, kind of a rotten egg smell. It will only give you 3~5 hp but is bad for the air. It may make your car use more gas, it may throw codes, or it may do nothing more than polute.

Don't remove your cat. It's not worth the couple of hp you might get, and you can get a good high-flow cat that will make just as much power (or very close) as no cat.

I removed my cat when I did an h22 swap in my 96si. The only reason I did it was because the original had to be hacked up to get it out. Their is no way I could have reused the thing. It doesn't add a smell for me or anyone else and I don't throw codes or get worse mpg because I switched to obd1 anyway. If I every replace my whole exhaust system I will put on a high flow but it isn't worth it until it rusts out or I move to an e-check county.

So I got my car back this afternoon. The cat is gone. Sounds pretty good. I need to find some time to place a high flow and test pipe in place. My check engine light is on and I know why that is. As for my ATTS light well that I don't know why. I will look arround to find out why that is. I will keep you all updated...looks like I am gonna build this bad boy to the best of my ability and you alls help. Thanks
