Default ACL bearing clearances--for those interested.

I got a set of ACL bearings, standard clearances for my GSR rebuild. I got them from Earl (Earl and Rocket were both very helpful). They look a bit different than OEM and have a dull surface on them that seems to scratch easily. Fitment is like stock. I plastigauged my main bearings today and they are all within spec. Not exacting like Honda but I am roughly between 0.0016 and 0.0020 which apparently should be just fine. We'll see about the rod bearings tomorrow with the Eagle rods.

these guys are swearing they are better than oem. they come in larger sizing but thats only if you have to grind your crank down. Otherwise std. size puts you in spec.

.002 is service limit. I get a slight knock on start up while the bearing is filling up with oil...and this is on stock OEM bearings. .0016 is PERFECT...002 is service limit

i thought it was better to have a little more clearance with a higher hp car since the more oil will allow better bearing cooling?

Running .002 is fine. Service limit on GSR's are like 0.0025. I'll have to double check my factory manual.

If you look in the Factory manual the GSR clearance are higher than LS.

I not only swear by ACL's I'll put my whole reputation behind these bearings.

Their Duraglide 780 sintered copper-lead alloy is ultra strong. The top lead overlay is very thin and highly fatigue resistant and won't "hen track" like OEM bearings.

The quality of manufacture is also higher if you have OEM vs. ACL side by side you'll see the difference.

I know a racer that spent over 100K in his race car and choose these bearings exclusively. I know I supply him.

ACL's are made with the same manufacturing process as Honda, they just don't come in the .0001 adjustments by colors. They match the green color code in most instances. They are a one size fits all that will give you clearances right in the middle of the specs. I use them in my own 9.40 @ 156 set-up as well as all the motors I build for customers. I have never seen a failure on an ACL bearing. Remember, if you switch to aftermarket rods (Crower, Eagle, Manley) your color codes don't work anymore.

Can someone please provide me with clearences on a LS motor. I am using ACL race bearings as well. Also what would be a recommended spec for a boosted application? Thanks

Factory clearance is fine if you are staying NA.
