ACL bearing clearances--for those interested.
I got a set of ACL bearings, standard clearances for my GSR rebuild. I got them from Earl (Earl and Rocket were both very helpful). They look a bit different than OEM and have a dull surface on them that seems to scratch easily. Fitment is like stock. I plastigauged my main bearings today and they are all within spec. Not exacting like Honda but I am roughly between 0.0016 and 0.0020 which apparently should be just fine. We'll see about the rod bearings tomorrow with the Eagle rods.

What were your bearing colors? (from given numbers and letters on crank and rods)

got my green plastigauge at Autozone.
my colors were pretty well worn off on my stock engine but seems like from the stamp codes and what I can see of the colors, i had a mix of red and brown.

can you use plain old "assembly lube"? I am using some Coastal stuff that is a thick clear lube for my rebuild, I assume that is ok. I got moly lube for my arp studs with the set but i can't seem to find a bottle of it anywhere around locally.

you can't get the Moly lube from a local store, it is only available to places that do a lot of business in bearings and rebuilds. Send me an IM, I will get you some.

I plan on using some Clevite bearing guard. Rocket said it's good stuff. Cheap as hell too.

damn, that's good to hear, I was getting a lil worried about clearances with the ACL bearing as I am planning on using them as well...
Luckily all I need are 4 green and a yellow on main and 3 green and a brown on rod bearing...that those aren;t too hard to find, so at least I have a back up, if the ACL will not fit within specs...
Please keep us updated on the rod bearing, as I am using a set of eagle as well...
thanks

these guys are swearing they are better than oem. they come in larger sizing but thats only if you have to grind your crank down. Otherwise std. size puts you in spec.

We include plastigauge and moly lube in all out bearing orders. IM me for details. OR, you can get plastigauge at your local parts store. You need the green. It isn't expensive.

ACL bearings are a one-size-fits-all bearing. All of my bearing sizes were about in the middle of the color chart, so I chose to use ACL.

Are they cheaper than Honda bearings?

Acl bearings are not as exacting as the Honda bearings. But, they do keep everything within specs, which is all that is needed.
ACL bearings are $103. That price includes shipping, moly assembly lube and plastigauge. Send me an IM or email for more info.
Thanks,
Kyle
