Default crx HF question

what's the key for gas milage? why did the CRX HF get such good gas milage other than it being a really light car?

was there some type of special heads or something unique about the engine?

if not...could you not take a normal CRX and rebuild the engine with the same compression ratio, cam, and stock heads and have a HF engine?

how much different is the HF 5 speed than a regular CRX si 5 speed, way less aggressive?

different intake manifold
different throttlebody
different air intake

lot smaller the size on all of that.

Not sure about injector.

I cant remember on that one, I'd have to pop the hood of my buddies hf

different tranny
8 valve head

These are a few of the things I can think of.

I changed the way I drive my, shift points etc.

I'm up to 40 mpg and I have a 88 crx si with 320k.

Different exhaust system as well. And most everything used on the Hf was a smaller or lighter version of some stock EF/Civic/CRX piece of hardware.

The transmission is unique to the HF as well, being a wide-ratio transmission. The engine doesn't rev high and cruises between 2000 & 3000 RPMs.

I have 236k miles on my HF and still get almost 40mpg in mixed driving and (when it's cool out) I can snag 50MPG highway.

they have hollow aluminum axle tubes and the splines are smaller
smaller brakes, narrower front knuckles
no sunroof, rear wiper, cargo cover, divider
almost no sound deadening
no light bulb in the ash tray
no sway bars

no power
tall gearing
tiny exhaust tubing

not sure on these, its been a while.
smaller gas tank?
AC optional?
rear speakers?

aren't the rear drums aluminum as well?

If I could find a hf I'd probably rock one for a while.

I came across one on a local atlanta site all the kids were bitching about the $1000 price tag. If I had the money i would of snagged it up. If I see another one like that I will. Need a little cosmetic work but all was good besides that.

smaller gas tank (10.5 vs 11.5) rear drums possibly smaller than a dx's, unique front bumper support, very thin tube like a bicycle frame. no rear speakers pretty sure the 13" wheels were even more narrow than the dx. Mine was painfully slow, tranny gearing is just unbearable
