Default Hey guys took my car to the dealer for belt and they found some stuff....

Well, its that newbie again Ideal, anways, I did a full tuneup on the car myself, which was a giant feat for me. but anways, i couldnt do the timing belt, not enough tools, plus just a bitch to get to, so i took it to the dealer, they went ahead, and replaced the timing belt, and the balancer belt, and replaced a valve cover gasket and adjusted valves and gave me a rental car for 360, so it wasnt that bad, but later that day, when my car was all open they gave me a call. They found a major oil leak and other things im gonna list what they told me to replace, and yeah i know somethings i didnt have to like the water pump, but i didnt want to pay another 360 when it broke.
Belt, P.S. Pump,
Belt, Compresser
Head cover gasket
Water Pump
Drain COC Gasket
Lower Seal
OIL SEAL 28x42x8
Head Co Gasket B
Oil Seal 40x52x7
OIL Seal 27x40x8
Seal Retainer
ALl of this including the labor and timing belt and balanver belt and valve stuff cost me 610 bucks. What do you guys think of that price, was it good?
Then... I told them that my car jerked when i made a change the transmission, so the guy said he would check it out for free, and do a oil change for 10 bucks. So they gave me a call a bit later, and told me. that they found one of the lower motor mounts had fractured and that my oil pan had to be changed ASAP!
266 for the motor mount and 234 for the labor, then for the oilpan 199 for the parts and 154 for the labor. I havent doen the mount and pan yet, not enough $$ what do you guys think of all this, can i go anywhere else and the get the labor for cheaper, can i do some of this stuff by myself with not that many tools? Any input would be helpful, thanks in advance.

Wow, but does that 800 price include the motor mount and oil pan repair and parts? and since you are at work, do you know if there is cheaper way to fix the mount and pan, from the prices i listed in the first post
thanks in advance.

buy the parts from http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com or in the case of the motor mount, a local scrapyard, (try http://www.car-part.com if no luck locally) and do it yourself. Its not that hard.

damn seems like you could drop in a swap for not much more than you'll have in the motor already

I was told that it was a lower mount or something, which is why the labor is so much cost wise, maybe they were lying to me, i mean, i know a company is a company, and however they squeeze money from you, they will.
Is their a way to check the lower mount for myself and see the fracture, or can it, or is it covered by something?
and for the oil pan, is that hard to replace in a car?
heh, one more thing, i Cant find the motor mount under the second website you gave me. and on the first website it says engine mount, which is probably the same thing, forgive me, i am a 98.2 percent newbie
thanks in advance.

green, what do you mean, by a swap? what is it, i might not be able to post again for another 24 hours so. Again: What is this "Swap" you are talking about? is it more cost effective, or it will cost more, but last longer? Info please, thanks in advance.

Well. If it is the rear mount, the shop probably charges 2.5 hours out. Do you know what the shops labor rate is? The oil pan isnt bad to do while the engine is in the car. You need to remove the exhaust and crossmember, which isnt too bad.

I was just saying that for all money you put into fixing the F22 youcold probably buy a H22 and swap it in. In reality thyis is probably not feasile for you and hindsight is always 20/20. Best of luck with getting your ride back up and running.

Yup. The recall has been out for some time now. Since 2000 i believe. You should be recieving a postcard from honda about this time to remind you (again). The recall ends Jan 1, 2003. If you have any doubt, contact your honda dealer or even post your VIN here and I can run it when i get a spare chance. The recall is for 94-97 accords, 92-96 preludes, 95-97 odysseys.

I used to work at a Toyota dealership and the management ordered the service writers to make up stuff. Like telling customers they need new brakes when they don't.
If I ever took my car in for routine service and they found a bunch of other problems I knew nothing off, I'd get a second opinion first. But anyway $610 for all that is a great deal which kinda makes me think maybe they didn't do all they said. Did you receive each used part back?

Brian don't get all mad... there are probably more bad than good dealers out there. Bunch of monkeys they are.

Would you care to elaborate on this? Some people don't care too much about being called a monkey.

Does anyone else see something fishing with them changing his oil for $10, THEN telling him that he needs a new oil pan?

I bet the emperor of Brunia himself would charge less than the average dealer for work on your honda. I'd never get any work done by a dealership unless its only the dealership that can do it, like getting my stereo code.

Im willing to bet that they will check his tranny and tell him he needs a rebuild.

Well, i've had some experience with this. The only problamatic oil seal I know of on the 4th gen is the balancer shaft seal. These seals have been known to back out and drain entire engines of oil in 5 minutes. It should be replaced if it's leaking and a retainer installed. (The retainer is only $3) As for the other seals, I dont know. So, $610 is about what it cost for me....maybe $700 tops....you're good with that.

Why the oilpan has to be changed ASAP I would be suspicious since you have all the other seals leaking, it may just be making it look like the pan seal is leaking. (Oil pan seals on these things do suck though) You can change it yourself...not too hard. Buy all parts/bolts from hondaautomotiveparts.com and get a repair book.

I'm thinking it's your front engine mount they mean. I have to change one soon myself. I've heard you can do this yourself, but nobody on honda-tech has convinced me that I wont drop my engine on the floor if I unbolt the dog bone.

All those prices are the norm.

Most private mechanics are bad because they use cheap aftermarket parts and arent used to foreign cars along with the usual lying to your face. Dealers suck because they bend you over and make you pay big bucks for a decent repair that didnt have to be done in the first place. Choose your poison.
