when my rpm gauge gets past 5500 it starts jumping around . i cant figure out why. anyone know? and how can i fix it? thanks

 

Is the motor actually breaking up or is it just the gauge? If it is just the gauge it would be an issue with the source of the feed, which is one of the components in the distributor, I just forget which off the top of my head.

Another possibility is that your alternator has failed and ur running on battery power which is wearing down. I've had that happen to me before, but the alternator light was on though. Otherwise it's the Ingiter, it makes the signal for the tachometer and sends it to the tachometer.

no the motor doesn't cut out its just the gauge. and my alternator light isn't coming on. i will check the igniter. thanx
