what RPM to switch?
i was just wondering, right now my shift light is set to 7800(i was thinking that by the time i actually shift ill be at 8000), but is 7800 our peak HP? the specs say 170@7600RPMs i know thats not accurate but am i gaining anything by shifting later? just wondering
Never fiddled with a shift light on our car but I have on my drag car:
I set the shift point about 200 less than what the peak horse power, I dont know why I did that but it seemed to work out to my liking.
Anyway I shift in our cars around 7600 so try setting it there...(that is when I am revin' my engine that high
)

so should i continue to shift at 7800? because sometimes the limiter comes on before 8100, iv see it come on at 7900 even (once it came on at 6800, i was low on gas...)

the fuel cutoff has no contact or communication with the tach...the tach is simply the readout of the engine speed so it wouldn't be the tach. but, my friends 94 'lude did the same thing, regardless of full tank/empty tank....and it would do it randomly. I've never had that happen...my car is non-VTEC, my buddys 'lude was VTEC, maybe that has something to do with it...who knows?
To my knowledge it shouldnt have came on at 6800, no matter how long its been warmed up. It never happened to me atleast(yet). It could have something to do with VTEC... like your ECU saying "****, the motor isn't warm enough yet, I can't engage VTEC, time to shut down".
I'd say 7800 is the ideal shiftpoint for you so you wont hit the rev limiter. It definatly sucks when your at the track or smoking a civic and your rev limiter hits. That way you have 200 rpms to get into the next gear.
