Default Check engine light after warm idle speed adjustment

It's a 97 Accord Lx with a JDM F22b6 if that makes a difference. Was having rough idle issues, doing the IATV thread deal fixed it, then it popped back up. Just did the Warm Idle speed adjustment and that brought my idle back down to ~600, but now I have a check engine light, which I did not have before. I reset my computer after the I put the pin back on, and now the check engine light is still on. Any ideas?

Do the SCS connector check with a paper clip and retrieve the codes. That will at least give you the OBD1 style diagnostic trouble code(s) and give you a bit more to go on.

Care to elaborate? I've never retrieved any codes as I've never had any trouble before.

These are the manual directions for an OBD2 96 Accord, should be the same for the 97.

Here is what it actually looks like in it's plastic bracket attached to the bottom of the glove box on a 96 Accord.

Removed from the bottom of the glove box.

and this is the actual 2 pin SCS connector removed from the blue bracket. This is where you stick the two ends of a paper clip or piece of wire.

Okay, so that is the map sensor. I believe that I unplugged that while doing the warm idle on accident. So now it's throwing the code. What does it mean if I just unplugged it, shut the car off, plugged it back in and reset the computer?

Check to make sure it is connected properly, reset the ECU by pulling the back-up fuse for 30 seconds and see if that clears the code.

Yeah, I did all of that. I'll do it again tomorrow before I work. Any other thoughts? I don't see how the sensor could go bad just by unplugging it if it worked fine before.

Any other thoughts guys? Car is for sale and I hate showing it with a CEL. Trying to pick up a H22a Accord COUPE this time!

Hey Ghost, if you read this I got a quick question. Whenever my car heats up and idles around ~600 you can hear the belt making a weird noise. Not a big deal but it bothers me. It sounds like a "wah wah wah.......(belt spinning) wah wah wah." Girlfriend says it sounds like a swarm of bees, other passenger said it sounds like a goose. Any thoughts?

Sometimes the power steering pump will make a noise similar to that. Next time you hear it stop the cart pop the hood and try to pinpoint exactly were the sound is coming from. As for your map sensor problem, do any of your buddies have a honda that you could borrow there map sensor for a bit? If you do try swapping the known good one, reset your ECU again and see what that does.

No I don't, actually. Only friend with a Honda passed away 2 nights ago in a car wreck in said Honda.

Now the noise isn't just a sometimes, it's a constant. I've got to go weld a leak up in my exhaust if the cars cooled down, then I'll check out the noise and post back up here in a few. Thanks brother!

Hey man I'm really sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

I meant to say that the pwr steering pump can make that noise if it gets warm and the fluid needs to be changed or there is a warn bearing. Could also be any of the other accessories bearings or you may just need to adjust the belt tension. That is if it is coming from the accessory belts.

I just flushed and changed my power steering pump, and it's a rather new one as it came with the engine. But it's possible that it's warn. How would I go about checking to see if the bearings are warn? Also, wouldn't that noise be caused if the belt was TOO tight?

What type of fluid did you use when you filled your PS system after the flush?

It could be caused by improper belt tension.
Pwr Steering belt = 13mm (0.5")
Alt & A/C belt = 10mm (0.3")

I forgot the brand, but it was a Honda specific fluid. Not sure if brand would affect this. My cousin is the one who put the new engine in and he's more into domestics, so perhaps the belts are either too tight or too lose.
