Default Avid/Hasport mounts - vibrations

I know Ill get some vibrations since the bushings are stiffer, but right now its ridiculous. Everything in my car is vibrating to fenders, doors, spoiler, dash, mirrors. Its so bad I can feel it in my feet and they start to fall asleep. And its so noisy inside the car we have to talk louder to hear each other. How soon / long will it take for the bushings to wear in where it will reduce some?

No, I double checked after I started the car to see if I might have missed any.

My car has Innovative billet engine mounts and Avid torque mounts. Even with only the engine mounts in, it vibrates a lot. With the torque mounts in there, I feel like there should be a coin slot that takes quarters in the car.

My mounts are only 75 durometer; I am wondering how much better the soft mounts are vibration wise?

How long have you guys been using them, are they past the break in period?

What is the "break in period"? I don't know how long they recommend. My engine mounts have been in probably somewhere between 1000 and 2000 miles. They don't seem to have gotten any smoother yet. If I knew that they'd get smoother in another few thousand miles, I'd stick with them. Otherwise, I'm going back to stock as they hold up fine in my 4 door and it's nice and smooth.

Well when I called Avid about it, cause I did was go with the stock replacements, they said give it a few hundred miles. The poly will break in and get warm and the vibration will calm down considerably.

I hope so cause if not, they will be coming out just as fast as they went in. Thats crazy to deal with that.

Mine have definitely been in there longer than a couple hundred miles. Heck, the trip from Kansas to here a couple times is well over that. I am wondering if maybe simply backing off the cross bolt (the long bolt that goes through the mount and bracket) then retorquing them may help the engine "relax" a little. If one mount was installed at a time and each one was completely torqued before going to the next one, this could cause a bind. Not sure but it may be worth a try.

I'll keep watching this topic to see if anyone has had any successful remedies to this.

Ryan

How center does the engine need to be seated in there? I mean cause there was alittle play in each of the holes that the bolts went thru. What if the mount was shifted to one side or the other, but still bolted up?

Also for the bracket in the Avid kit, the holes in the A/C bracket mount, were slot somewhat so you could shift around the mount. When I first put it in, it was way off, like the bracket had to be tweaked just right in order for the mount to drop into it.

The mounts should breakin to what you could expect within 500 miles or so typically. I know personally the vibration and such as worth it because you are truly getting your power to the wheels. You may try loosening them all make sure everything is in line and retorquing everything in to spec see if it helps at all...

if not and you got the 92-95 mounts for 3 bolt setup hit me up I may take them off ur hands if you want to go back to stock.

Do any of your motors shake when you turn the car off? I turn my key off and it rumbles for a quick second.... That normal?

Having used and driven several street/track cars with urethane suspension and engine mounts, I doubt there will be a variable decrease in vibration. These parts are designed to work with the chassis and motor to increase power delivery, increased vibes is a trade off. I would recommend stock mounts, homemade with polyurethane. I think this setup is much more in tune with a street/daily driver type car, you'll get the good points with increased power delivery; without the annoying vibes and extra dental work.

Which mounts do you have of Avid's and which are HAsport's in your car? If it continue's to vibrate, just give us a call back and I'll hook you up with some softer urethane at no charge.

I really doubt the vibrating is going to "break in"

I did the DIY fill in urethane on my stock mounts and even for only 60A hardness, it still vibrates like crazy. I did this about a year ago and for all 4 mounts besides the rear mount.

Theres a thread about modifying avid tq mounts, to take out some of the stiffness.
I dont remember the name of the thread, but searching for "avid torque" will probably net you results.
The creator ended up removing some of the urethane or something like that...

I also did a DIY urethane fill, but on my tq mounts only and I think it vibrates a lot for just that.
From this, I would never do it to all the mounts.

The other mounts aren't really that bad actually. I first did the tranny and driver side and didn't do the torque mounts. Didn't really feel any different. Once I did the torque mounts, I was like WOAH! lol

I've read about your technique with the 3m tape. Can you give me a little bit more info on it please?

Franklin comes through again!

the dude never let me down when i had problems, even sent me a free oem bracket to use! avid ftw!

by the way, if you are making enough power to where aftermarket mounts are needed, you shouldnt be crying about vibration.

Dont know what else to say about it.
Remove the mount, tape one side, fill in the gaps with 3M window weld (available at PartsAmerica Parts stores (ie - advance auto)).
It takes awhile to solidify completely.
I do think it makes more of a positive difference, than negative. Sure, there are rattles now, but its cheap and very effective... Cheaper than Avid mounts, cheaper than new oems (if your rubber is torn).

If you want a how-to with pictures....

Hmm, I'm about to try that out doggy. And the lower the urethane, the softer it is right?
