I just saw my car!
I'm 90 percent sure.
I was driving home, going west on Frankfurt, when I heard a familiar sound and looked over to see an Integra blow past in the other direction. It was the same color as mine, and the paint looked fresh like mine was. It also had the rear "Acura" badge shaved like mine was. And it was sporting temporary tags.
Of course, I was stuck at a light in the middle lane. When it turned green, I pinned it, shot into the next left-turn cutout, and yanked my rented Sentra into a U-turn, tires howling in protest. The bastard had quite a head start on me. I couldn't even see him anymore, but the red mist was giving me tunnel vision and a lead foot. I pushed that Nissan probably like every other renter has a thousand times, blasting down Frankfurt.
Then I saw it again. He hooked a left on Kelly Road. I tried to follow, but some booger-eating dickweed in an F-150 with a "Got Christ" license frame was sitting in the left-turn lane talking on his cellphone. Jesus. I finally got around that lump of dumbass, but it was too late. There were too many places the Integra could have gone, and I'd lost sight of it again. I tried ducking into one of the several apartment complexes when I noticed an open gate, drove around the parking lot, but had no luck. After threading my way through the neighborhood a bit, I gave up and went back home.
It's been almost three weeks since my car was stolen. I haven't heard a single word from the cops about it. I get the impression that they don't do much more than data entry in these cases. They put some info in a computer, and if they happen to luck into finding it, they'll impound it and call me, charging me a hefty fee to get my stolen property back I'm sure.
The thing is, I've been wondering for at least the last week why they haven't found the stripped shell by now. Part of me says it's because the thing has been cut into pieces and scrapped, or left somewhere it won't likely be found. But another part of me says that maybe it's because the car hasn't been stripped yet. Maybe someone is out driving it around more or less intact.
Seeing this car today has me leaning toward the latter scenario. The cops are still looking for the license plates, which I doubt are still on the car regardless of its condition. They aren't really looking for it, just waiting to find it. I've seen several other Integras the same color as mine, but I've always known just at a glance that they weren't mine. This one was different. This one maybe wasn't, but it could have been.
I don't know what to think.

man...I probably would have done some foolish driving in that scenario...it would have probably been a frantic frenzy of whatever that rental could give me.
id say hopefully it was yours, so maybe youll see it driving around again and have a better chance next time. or maybe the driver will do something dumb and get pulled over and caught.

Was there an officer / Dectective assigned to your case?
If so call him and tell him that you are 90% sure you saw the car in that area. Hopefully they act accordingly and alert the local patrol cars.

Damn, that really sucks. I think I met you once out at a car meet. I'm the guy w/ the RHD CW ITR. I use to have a MR GSr w/ JDM front end. It got stolen too from a girl that bought it off a friend I traded it to.(Long story) I don't think they ever found that car either. The front license plate and all emblems were shaved, and it had fresh paint, but it also had five lug.

man, what a tease
to whoever stole your car... and possibly whoever was driving it. is there any way of "staking" the area out? was it an apartment complex? a dead end sort of area? any way of contacting the dmv to pull up temp. plates for any integra?

Damn that's nuts bro, sorry. Dude has ***** just driving around in your car, he'll get his soon enough, now you know there's at least hope. On you free time you should be posted up around where you saw your car, do your own stake out...
It happened to me before. Not three weeks, but three hours after I reported the car stolen and I was waiting for the cops after a Seahawks game in downtown Seattle.
I had a PY Civic SI with a carbon fiber hood so it stood out like a sore thumb. I'm standing on the street corner and see my car turn on the road coming towards me. I stand in the street and the guy made another turn right in front of me. He doesn't notice me yet and he stops at a stop sign. I run towards the car and I'm about 6 feet from the back of the car and he gets an opening to take off. That's when I became verbally present and he really took off. I chased him as long as I could and hopped on the phone again to call the cops for the fifth time.
The cops show up shortly after that call where I reported I saw the guy in my car. They eventually found the car not far away a month later a day after I got my insurance check and was coincidentally test driving my Type R.
I said that's the insurnace company's car now. I took my $12.5k they gave me for the salvaged titled SI and ran. Not bad since I bought it for $13k three years prior.
To the OP it very well could have been your car.

The DMV should have records of all of the temp. tags issued over the past few weeks... i bet if you tell whoever is on your case, they could go probe those records. Shouldn't be terribly hard to sort through and find a type-r in the mix. Of course, this is all considering that was actually your car you saw.
Well I'm not terribly happy with the way the Carrollton police have handled this thing so far. First of all, you have to go through one of those automated lines every time you call them. Second, they seem to keep bankers' hours. The detectives are only around from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. I wasn't able to get ahold of anyone last night when I had just seen the car, and when I called this morning all I got was voicemail. The detective still hasn't returned my call, and I don't even know if she got the information.
As for the temp plate, I have a feeling it's fake. The DPS has my VIN and the stolen vehicle report, so they should not have been able to get a legitimate temp plate for it. But it's entirely possible that one of the people who stole the car has access to temp plates that they can just fill out, or maybe they just made one. It can't be that difficult, and it would probably be enough to keep a cop from getting suspicious or seeing the original plates.
You know what I hope?
I hope I just happen to see it in a parking lot somewhere around here. If I find it like that, I'll check the VIN (I have it memorized), call the cops, and hope they get there before the person driving it comes back out.

I hope they aren't on HT because you won't see the car again after posting your sighting them you putz.

and the police wonder why people take the law into their own hands.
if that was your car then at least you know its still in one piece.

Well I certainly won't be doing that. If I see it, and can verify that it is mine, I will be calling the police.
Also, I do understand that they can't put out a dragnet for my car. I don't expect them to be going though all the neighborhoods and side streets looking for it. But it does bother me that they are so difficult to get ahold of, making it hard for me to give them information.

sounds similar to my friend's story (batoutahell): https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1066931
..."We turned into an area high school parking lot on a hunch, but didn’t see the car. As we were getting ready to pull out of the parking lot back onto the road, I hear a loud, familiar exhaust and I watch my R drive RIGHT PAST ME. We’re in my Dad’s car, so not fearing being recognized, we tail my R...."
hopefully, you'll have a good ending like he did.
