What kinda of slicks to use with 600hp+ m&h or mickey thompson?
What kinda of slicks to use with 550hp+ m&h or mickey thompson? i have a set of m&h which started out hooking good but now its not. should i buy another set these things looks brand new got about 10 pass on them. they are 25X8.7X13 or should i got with some mickey thompsons 24.5x9x13 thats the only size they got? or if you guys got any other tires u guy got any good luck on let me know. Thanks
Are you just looking to run brackets or a class. If brackets, what's the smallest 26" tire you can run ?
Run a little more tire pressure and you should be OK.
IMO people are two tied to 24.5" tires.
If we had not listen to everyone last year we may have run our D series on a 26" and gone faster. Who know's.
Sean Devine is running his D on bigger tires, so I don't wee why you can't.
Oh yea use MT's

How much are the 26's expanding? Do you have to cut anything to make them fit? I have F2 coilovers, the car can be raised pretty high. They only come in 15'' wheel size's correct?

i lot of the reason you see the 24.5 so highly touted is the forgiveness they offer.
they are so much more lenient on drivetrain parts
26s are well known for breaking parts -- they used to always be called axle breakers but in the recent years the aftermarket axles have become really nice quality and this isn't as much of an issue anymore
but 26s will still destroy transmission parts left and right if you aren't careful
i can't count how much stuff we used to break on the 26s when we ran them occassionally, now i think we will have better luck with them with things we have learned and if you have an aftermarket gearset even more so but overall the 24.5s are a no brainer for better reliability

Thanks for your knowledge and insight.
Breaking parts is why we when with the D2B and DSS axles.
OP you need to think about your whole set up. How stout is it ? How good of a driver are you ?
Is this your first time at the drag strip?
Rota92 was lucky enough to have a normal learning curve, 14's, 13's, 12's etc. He also had help from people like Innes to guide him.

Whoops... THought it was a street tire thread....... My bad...
Im running The M&H 235/60-15s on My 637WHP pile of four door Accord. 26" OD. IM SOLD... Cant say enough about them
The car makes 530 WHP at 17 PSI... Car hooks 3rd SOLID at 20 PSI on the street with about 20 pounds in them as well. A tad of feathering is neccessary for the top of second, but they are AMAZING!!!! Part of the problem is my gear dependent is off due to the tranny ratios being different (my built trans is wayyyy shorter), but all of third and fourth are solid.
At 21 PSI Ran mid 11s at 128 MPH with shitty 60's trying to be nice to an ailing tranny.... WITH PLENTY left in the car. Built tranny (forged straight cuts and LSD) Is going back in it. All I did is drive the car to the track, drop pressure to about 12 PSI, and had I had a healthy tranny in it, I would dare say that if I could have shifted hard and left well, I would have been in the DEEP 11s on them.
Ive heard good about the MTs as well, but if it aint broke...... They are the only tires the car sees bvesides 26" slicks. Ive got 3K on them with about 5 passes and CONSTANT raping on the street. Still have about 30% tread left.
In fact im looking for another set now just to be ready for when its time.

Thanks for all the info. I been running in the low 11's 11.07@132 . and now after 10 pass on the new m&h 25x8.7x13 my first gear spins out way to much now. just want a consistent tire to be able to run low 10's and be in the pro am class. got a new competition clutch twin disc to hold the new power. get new axles my last set broke. they are some pro drive shafts. i know this weekend i go out it should do a 10 second pass but i want it to be low 10's i know thats not gonna happen. anymore info would help a lot thanks

You should be able to get plenty of passes with the MH. Keep in mind some people are nit picky about 60fts ALL THE TIME. Any older slick wont get you the BEST 60ft ever no matter what brand.
IF you arent too worried about getting the SUPER Best 60ft around, meaning 1.5/1.6, then an old slick will get you down the track for your local test n tune just fine.
If you're looking to compete and get the super best 60ft out of each run. Plan to buy a new pair of slicks every couple events, no matter what brand you are using. Most of these highly competitive cars change slicks some even every weekend. most people dont need to do that.

Do you switch the slicks from side to side every few passes ?
We had about 35 passes on the set of MT rota was running last year and his best 60'ft's were in the last few passes. But then again we kept making minor adjustments all the time just trying to see how fast the car would go.

I personally dont race much so I dont have that issue. But I carry about 10-20 sets of the MT 24.5x9x13. There are over a dozen racers out there that buy from us on consistent basis. Thats just based on what they buy from me. So I'm assuming they switch out often. Those same people are usually the ones that go through my inventory pretty quick.

i agree, john at M&H is super nice to everyone, even people not running his product he seems to be very helpful to
but at the end of the day if the slick is 1/10th slower than the competition and you lose the race you still lose the race

thanks guys i got some new mickey Thompsons ran the tire pressure at 4psi and i cut my best 60ft on this car. not that great but good enough for me i cut a 1.6 and got in the 10's but i only did 1 run and axle started making some noise. so that was it. i think i could have done better but dss axles here we come. I used some prodrive old school ****.
