Default Please help me diagnose a suspension problem

Moved to suspension forum.

Well autocross season is here and i was driving the gsr pretty hard at the last event
and think i might have wore something out.

the other day daily driving under hard braking
my car got all squirly like it wanted to turn. Then yesterday i noticed it feels a
little wierd during cornering. I just noticed when i go over bumps i hear like a hollow knock coming from the front of the car.

I jacked up the driver side front yesterday, tried to shake the wheel up and down
and it was stable, tried to shake it side to side and i hear the knock, ughhh!
Its not like a loose easy to shake movement, you have really pull on the wheel
to get the noise, then push really hard to get it to do it in the other direction.
It seems to be about 1\16 to 1\8 play from side to side, which would affect my toe.

My outter tie rod feels very firm so i dont think its that. My first thought was
the inner tie rod but i dont know the symptoms of a bad inner rod.
Then i was thinking a bearing, do you guys have any ideas or any tips on what
i can do to narrow it down to what exactly is about to break?

Thanks Guys,
Chris

Try Jacking the car up on the LCA's and move the wheel side to side, like place you hands on 3 and 8 (like the hands on a clock) and move the wheel side to side, if it moves then i would say a wheel bearing, hope that helps does it make like a clicking noise or a humming noise at different speeds ??

Good Idea, Thanks Man.

No humming at all, just a clunk noise over bumps.'
From what i have read so far it sounds like since i am not getting any movement
when shaking the wheel at 12 and 6, that i might be able to rule out the bearing.
Shaking only occurs at 3 and 9.

I could also try tugging on the tierod itself and see if i get the noise.
