Civic '98. When I brake, the hand brake light (in the dash) lights up, the car makes some weird noises at the front and a strong chemical smell comes up in the car. Anybody has a clue on what to look for?

Sorry, it's the battery light that comes on.

 

Check your brake fluid, no idea what the smell is from though.

 

Check the fuse box underneath your dash, make sure water isn't dripping on it.

Check the fuse of course.

Check the two ground boxes next to your headlights in the front, make sure they are bolted in tight.
