Default cam, need tuning?

I have a 00 ej8, d16y8. Can I safely run like, a stage 1, or maybe a stage 2 crower cam without ECU tuning? I am buying a used port/polished head with Ti Springs/Retainers and an OEM cam and it seems like kind of a waste without an aftermarket cam, but I dont want to spend the money on tuning, not to mention I live in europe and Honda tuners are few and far between. Thanks in advance.

You're not going to see the potential of the cams if you do not tune them. If you're willing to go all out and buy a set of new cams you should also go the extra mile and tune them. Save up your money so you can do it right and tune the cams.

why modify an engine for performance if you dont want to spend the money on the most important aspect of building a motor?

So basically you guys are saying it wouldn't really make a difference w/o a tune? Its not really that I dont want to tune it as much as it is me not wanting to go through all the trouble I would have to go through, the money I would have to spend, and the distance I would have to travel to find someone in europe who can tune a honda with hondata or crome... Get where I am coming from? I'm not trying to cheap out, its just difficult living over here where nobody really messes with Hondas.

learn to tune yourself.

you need a laptop, wideband, ostrich, datalogging cable and a tuning program.
eCtune is very affordable, as well as crome.

http://www.xenocron.com sells tuning "kits".

its pointless to change the geometry of the motor and not change how it fuels and sparks the combustion process. Its like a false positive.

I guess there are no modified or quick cars in Europe. All the Cosworths, Ferrari's, Alfa's, AMG's, BMW's Mercedes, come from the US or Japan. seeing as most tuning parts are made overseas, I guess they just never figured out how to make them work. Just curious, what chassis dyno is made in the US? What ECU's?

I see your location says APO. So that means you're military? If you're anywhere near Mannhiem, GE there is a DOD civilian that works there and he's got a built integra. He does His tuning himself, and helps other honda guys. He works at the Auto self help place (can't remember the name) on Taylor Barraks in Mannhiem.

Thanks. I was actually on that site earlier. Crome sounded pretty easy. I would have to have access to a dyno right? No other way to do it?

Awesome, I'll have to try calling there. You have any contact info for this guy? Like his name maybe?

So were you stationed in Mannheim?

thanks for the help dude. Most people who want to drive fast here just buy a fast car. Modifiying is nowhere near as popular here as in the US. In all the time I have been over here, I have not once seen a modified Japanese car that wasn't done by an American and then brought over here.

if i understand don correctly, he was meaning that just because you dont see them, that does not mean they are not there. hell i live in a college town full of racers and its very rare that i ever see one of them on the street.
Find the shops, talk to the tuners. See if they can help you. Maybe they would not mind doing the tuning for you if you gave them a program and time to get oriented.
You are going to have to take some initiative if you want to get something done.

I get what you are saying, but I'm telling you guys, they just aren't here to be found... At least not in my area, and I live in a big city! I am sure not going to wander europe looking for a tuner... I will put a little more footwork into it, but I am convinced it will be fruitless.

Anyway, what you said about tuning it myself, it sounds really fun, I would be down for giving it a shot. Looking on xenocron they have a DIY "kit" and a dyno "kit" making it sound like I don't need a dyno. Whats up with all that?
