Default 1.6L EL

I am trying to buy a 2000 Acura 1.6L EL which is about the same of a 2000 Civic. I want some info on these cars and hope that someone can help. I am interested to know what parts were known for abnormal wear and or failure. Also I would like to know about any TSB's that you guys may have to share. And I would much apreciate any other info you guys are willing to share including opinions. Thanks guys

ELs never had a b-series, and was available only in Canada as the EL model. It had a D16Y8.

yeah ur right in canada it came with a d16 in canada but sense we are in america and in america acuras dont have d16 only b series and higher the el comes up as an integra for smog which has a b series motor so there fore in america you can register a acura el with a b18b or b18c1... my boi went through all of this about a year ago

It doesn't have city lights. It has DRLs (Datime Running Lights).

As BlueIntegraBoy said, it came with a D16Y8.

Stock leather (Civics had leather as a DEALER option - aftermarket leather re-upholstery). The climate control section is different too. And of course it was a sedan only.

That might be right about modern Acuras, but it wasn't always. Not to mention that they're still all just Hondas. Integras in Japan often had D-series engines too.

So while I understand what you mean, your information is outdated and doesn't really apply to this argument.

OP, the 1.6EL was sold overseas as a Honda Domani and an Isuzu Gemini.

I was just in Canada over the weekend---EL's all over the place. Lots of leather and holes in the headrests too

Well, just look for normal things

What's the mileage? Check for a bad input shaft bearing, D series transmissions are notorious for them.

my info does apply to this arguement it was my post that started this argument....but let me reword what i said all acuras of t he same year of a production 1.6el came with atleast a honda b series or higher and sense that is true you bring a acura el to the sates it comes up as an acura (b series) not as a honda (d series)...so ther fore you can register with a bseries non type r or jdm so my info is not outdated and does support my side of the argument, and this isnt just her say i talking about, my boi andrew did this exact process and i was there to see it....my bois el and my ej8 [IMG][/IMG]

I have no idea what that means. I've never tried to register a 1.6EL in the states, but I imagine you would register it either as an Acura 1.6EL or as a Civic in the rare event you can't register it as what it really is.

I would think this has more to do with the state you're living in and how they register cars than anything.

Perhaps it's similar to when people try to apply for rewards for having an alternate fuel vehicle and many different state computer programs don't list a Honda Civic with an alternate fuel, so there are hurdles to jump over for that process as well in the event you want to register a GX for benefits.

Since the OP just wanted to know about the stock parts on an Acura 1.6EL and what kinds of problems such a car might have, your friend having one with a B-series has no bearing in this thread.

I've used the online smog check service to check the history of various cars, and I've seen a lot of interesting discrepancies. CRX's and del Sol's come up as Civic or Civic Coupe if not the usual CRX or del Sol, for example. I wouldn't be surprised if some clueless tech types in '1998 Acura' and the first result is Integra. And the OP was trying to say that if so, they would be ok with the B engine. And apparently, it happening one time to one person is enough to be a fact

My friend went into Kragen to ask about oil and told them he had a 1998 GSR and the computer came up with 1990 Integra B18A1. We ignored their advice.

Exactly.

In a strange twist, I imported a '98 1.6EL Sport from MA back into Canada, it had been in MA for about 6 years according to the carfax. When I brought it to Canada I had to deal with the RIV to ensure it was admissible and passed their inspection, and paid GST upon entry to the country, and PST upon registration, no duty as it was built in Canada.

Who is telling you it's too much work? The only person doing work should be you, lol.

I can understand the computers for the state not knowing that there was one very rare limited edition Civic for three years.

The OP never asked anything about B-series engines.

The OP is also in a different state from the guy who had the other 1.6EL registered as an Integra or whatever it was registered as. So it's very possible the state computer programs will be different in content.

You're probably going to have a somewhat difficult time (not impossible) finding people who have imported cars from Canada.

Most cars sold in Canada have a very similar equivalent sold in the US. So usually there's no point to it.

Make another thread asking in the title for advice on importing cars from Canada. Right now this thread looks like it's just something about 1.6ELs. It's not the type of title that gets a lot of attention from peopel who have shipped random different cars from Canada because they might not care about 1.6ELs in general (which is what the thread title only states).
