Default Saved a crx spyder from the scrappers today

Went to the junkyard last Monday and as I walked up on the 7th crx my jaw dropped, it was a rare oem optioned crx spyder(1 of 310 build). Unwrecked and not in bad shape overall to restore.

So I got a price for the whole car, a wopping $1500 . After a few days of thought I decided to go back and buy the car, Myself and 2 other Red Pepper Racing members went back to the yard on the following Sunday to swap the bad parts on the car with good parts from the other crx's in the yard. Doing all this before I comit to buying the car and leaving some pices off the car so it looked partly stripped. We swapped the complete doors, fenders, front bumper, seats, rims, tail lights/ center panel along with other odds and ends, we also put a set of integta from brakes in the spare tire area for a big brake upgrade.

Could not buy it that day because there wan no one there to do the papaerwork or a crew to move the cars to get to this one(had to move 9 cars) so I went back today and bought the car. We left parts off the car so it looked a little stripped and it worked, the manager lowered the price of the car to $1200 .

I now have it unloaded from the trailer but it is too dark to take pictures so I will update with new pics tomarrow.

I now have:
87 crx Si
87 crx Si spyder by R. Straman Co.
84 crx spyder

Well done! You'll post pictures of the restoration in-progress, won't you? I'm so looking forward to seeing how it looks all fixed-up.

The CRX is such a shiny car. Such precise handling, such performance and all in an elegant little package that's cute enough for a girl to drive, yet far from sissified with the 'Grr. Arrgh.' square headlights and low-set nose. And your new one is a convertible...that is just full of win!

Is there a special club to join when you have three or more?

nice find i saw a pic of what looked like someone chopped the roof off to make it look like a spyder but its possible it was a true spyder but nice find i didnt think it was real for a CRX to get any better now only if they had a targa option

very nice find. i didnt' even know there was such a thing. Gee, I wonder where you got that front wheel from? (As I notice the E30 in the background missing it's wheels.)

That poor 3G (Accord) has had it's better days huh? That roof is crushed.

On a side note, I only wish the local j/y's here put all their cars up on peds like that. All the places around here just plop them on the ground, which is all clay thanks to the DEP up here.

I have not been able to touch the car yet and it is killing me(too busy). Just a side note this was an option for the 1gen crx in all years 84-87. The plan was a limited number of 500 but at the ture of $4995.00 on top of the price of the car only 310 got done. Reasonible I have to say 50% of them are gone now and mary others the owners do not know what they have but there are a few beauties tucked away here and there making an apearance.

New pics from today, I can not move either convertible. The red one has 2 flats and no keys yet(locked steering), and the silver one has no pedels in it(stripped inside for restoration).

and a link to the rest of the pictures.

I got the key code off the trunk lock so new set of keys on the way, I already have trim, I make the tops and have one sitting in my back den and I have an entire shop full of parts.

I guess the biggest thing I need is a rear bumper cover and side skirts, I have just about everything else needed for this restore.

I was astonishe to see the one featured in Honda-Tuning at a car meet across the state, and you found one at a junk yard? I probably would have pooped my pants.

My other crx spyder is a manual as well as my hardtop, I think I will leave this auto if it is not shot so my wife can drive it(she has a bum knee).

I got to work on the car for about an hour this evening, I cleaned out the cabin area and wiped down the dash and door panels.

damn, talk about being in the right place at the right time to find that car .

considering where you found it and the condition it was in, i am surprised it wasnt sold for peanuts...but atleast they let you mix-match all the good parts. still a nice buy

Man what are the chances of a guy who already has one finding another one in the junkyard! That's just amazing. Were they sold at only select dealerships? Maybe there is just more in your area. I knew they existed, but I've never seen one, and think it's awesome that you found a second one!
