Loss of Horsepower with A/C?
how much horsepower does hooking up an a/c system take away from a '99 GSR ??
is there any type of a/c compressor available that can minimize the loss of horsepower with respect to the performance of the car?

well i dont know about a B-series but my d-series is real slow with the a/c on, but it only uses a noticeable amount of power when its on anyway. Get some underdrive pulleys if your really worried about power loss. IMO put the A/C on you'll be glad you did when its hot.

If you think your gsr lags when the a/c is on, you should try driving my Y8 with a/c on. When i'm driving with the a/c on, you can feel the car lose power after 2,000rpm. Especially becuz my car is black, it soaks up all the heat.

All accessories sap some power. Thats why the new horsepower standards yield less hp from the same engines. Example: With the power-steering pump and A/C compressor attached the 210hp RSX-S makes 201hp.
DOn't buy aftermarket pullies, most of them are not balanced, they don't help with power loss and they will vibrate your crankshaft to death. Just turn off AC when you want the performance, its pretty easy.

of course there would be a slight loss in power, its running off your belts, the mere inertia properties of it all would suggest this. suffice it to say, its nearly common sense bro
but there are no special compressors for what you ask, and the easiest thing to do would be PS/AC delete. but is it worth it for you, when its mere 2-3 whp (if that)?

I LOVED how my car responded without PS/AC. It def. feels like more than 2-3 hp. Throttle response was improved.
Though there was that chronic Swamp-***...

ive heard the ac belt doesnt run unless its turned on so no strain on the pulley

The compressor... the clutch... the condenser fan... the evaporator fan - these all require electric power, sooo... yes, the alternator drag, yada, yada, yada... plus the added vehicle weight!
The figures I've seen - generically speaking - and ALL things considered - are 5-30 horsepower, depending on who you believe.
I'd *GUESS* - based on my 'seat-of-pants' dyno & gas mileage reduction - 10-15 horsepower on the typical Honda...

If I was that concerned about the power loss, then I would just take the belts off. That way later on when you want the AC and PS back, all you have to do is put the belts back on. That will also help with resale value since most likely the new owner would want properly functioning A/C and P/S (I know I would).
