any ideas would be great

Sounds pretty nasty. **** happens though....grinds happen now and then, too bad it happened to you at 8K. haha.
Try changing your tranny oil. Have a look at what comes out. If the oil looks like a bottle full of glitter, she's probably toast.

it could be but im leaning more towards clutch honestly because it is grinding while its in gear, and not while its between gears. Generally when your tranny grinds on a honda it is due to bad sycro's and it will be noticed when shifting from one gear to another
i think this really is a clutch issue, i would pull your clutch and check it and the TO bearing. Also bleed your clutch as well. see if any of that helps, but realy i think this has to do with the clutch

Nasty sound with the clutch engaged=Input/output shaft bearings. A TOB makes noise with your foot on the clutch, not off, because there is no "load" on the TOB with your foot off the clutch. If the bearings were on the way out but not noticed, you most likely put it over the edge with the hard 2-3 shift and put the nail in the coffin, and the input shaft wont line up right with the output shaft(and the syncros wont either) if any of the bearings got wasted preventing you from putting it in gear with the car running.
