Default Distributor cap question

Hi folks,

I bought a new cap and rotor for my folks' 1992 Honda Accord LX. My only experience doing a cap and rotor is on my 1987 Volvo, and it was tough, since the cap is facing the firewall on the end of the cam.

This new cap for the Accord comes with a flimsy rubber gasket. What is this for???

Thanks!

Ari

Default Re: Distributor cap question (SpazMan)

The gasket is for a small groove that is cast into the Distributor housing where the cap meets; It's purpose is to help water proof the distributor.
I think the technicians sometimes put small smears of silicone on them to help hold them in place while the new cap is being installed.
