h series questions
I have a 99 hatch and I was thinking about doing an h series swap but I have a lack of knowledge about them so I thought id ask how hard it is to put an h22 or h23 in a 99 civic. and also I was wondering are they any harder to work on than a b or d series? Any advice or opinions about doing an h swap would be apreciated. Thanks in advance!
their pretty good to do a swap on. just the harness of the car gave me problems and had to tow it to a shop so they could do their magic on it to save your self the headache just go h2b. thats what am doing right now h2b with a gsr transmission since am going boost later
Just make sure to do a lot of research before you go any further with your plans. It's really not as hard as a lot of people make it out to be. There is certainly more involved than doing a D-series or B-series swap, but it's not too bad. The worst thing that will happen is that you'll have to find a service manual online for your car and for the engine, then compare the ecu pinouts. Plan ahead, make sure you have all the tools and parts ready the say of the swap; especially all the little odds and ends (fluids, gaskets, nuts & bolts).

It's all a matter of opinion. The regular H trans is fine if you don't have money for the H2B adapter plate and the B series transmission.
Not to mention if you drive on the highway you want the H trans, not a B series trans, it becomes a battle of what you do more of, if you want to keep gas mileage.
Never-the-less, despite how long it is, H trans feels so much better than a B trans

Save yourself some time and do timing belt and
water pump before starting the swap. The last
one I did the guy optedout and came back about
4 months later saying..."Can you do TB and WP?".
I answered yes and proceeded to drop the engine lol.
In 96-00 you can barely put a finger between the
valve cover and driver side strut tower lol.
This is the first H22 I did and I didn't like it lol
It gets easier, but not by much lol. Great swap
for DD it's torquey and still good on gas. Just
keep up on the maintenance, Hs are picky as heck.
