If you select for example the JDM ITR transmission, how do you get the ratio of 0.787 for fifth? Or any gear for that matter. I know it has to do with the number teeth on the gear, but divided by what?

it's divided by anything.
example, S80 (JDM ITR)

to get the ratio you take the number of the driven gear divided by the number of teeth on the drive gear. All though those numbers are not shown on that page. Only the ratios themselves.

how they work...
1st: 3.23:1 (meaning 3.23 turns of the crankshaft to one turn of the main shaft of the trans)
this also runs through the final drive, which is 4.785, so your total is 15.3425 turns of the crank to 1 turn of the axles.
to get to speed you need the tire diameter to know how far one revolution of the tire travels.

 

Thanks for the reply. I guess what I'm trying to do is identify a gear. I have a spare counter and mainshaft and I want to use the 4th / 5th gears but I'm not sure what their ratio (how tall they are) is?

In other words, how can you tell if you have a GSR fifth as compared to an LS fifth?

 

count the number of teeth on each gear.
driven/drive = ratio

I don't know the number of teeth on each gear though. It's not easy to find either... (I searched)

 

well, on the si for fifth there was like 29 and for the "gsr" there was 25 or so. I'm just not sure if the 25 tooth gear is a fifth from an LS or a GSR?
