So a couple a days ago i was cruisin around my neighborhood, then a piece of crap cop pulls me over to tell me that i have a illegal exhaust. I have a skunk2 mega power catback exhaust. Should i fight this??? i have a silencer but it was not on it at the incident. I also do not have a set court time date for my pull over. The officer told me to go to the police station and let them check it. Thanks

Well, is it listed as a dB rating below that required by your state? If so, put the silencer in and get it tested with a meter at the police station.

Otherwise, that's your fault for buying an exhaust that isn't legal in your state.

There is no court date because you aren't required to appear for a fix-it ticket.

 

I got pulled over a while ago for my skunk2 exhaust. I went home, put the silencer in, went to the police station and had them listen. They filled out the paperwork stating it was legal and i was on my way.

yea but you see. theres a difference. your in new york, and he's in cali.
that pretty much says it all.

 

California, I believe is at 95db. Now, I am not sure what the Skunk2 is rated at, with or without the silencer...

anyone know this?

If it's not, he can just put the silencer in for his fix it ticket. I've tried googling this as well, but no luck.

 

Shoulda got a Tanabe Medalion Touring (under 93 db, no silencer needed)

 

im remember reading somewhere at vtec its somewhere around 113dbs without the silencer so idk if the silencer would do that much good but then again idk is there a way i could check mine? like some sort of tool i could get for cheap

 

Yeah I Know the Actual DB w/o the Silencer for the Skunk 2 Mega Power R: 220db
w/Silencer: 112db
I had the same exact sitchuation, and I live in the bay area. So what I did was when I had to get it state Ref, was that they told me that I had to remove the Catback and swap my stock one, then get it Ref again, so they can pass me. After all that I went straight to the Police station to get it checked off. When after that was all done. Few weeks later I put my Skunk2 Catback back on with the Silencer. Cause it didn't sound as loud. And so far I been ticket free. Thank god!! hope this was helpful to you guys.

BTW when I got caught by Cops I didn't have my Silencer lol. ;D TeeHee.

 

i got the same thing last september for a skunk2 catback as well... just put the stock muffler back on and still have it on to this day... if you still want the exhaust just change the muffler and leave the piping then put the muffler back on once its cleared IMO.
