Oil leak?Whats wrong?
I have a 99 Honda civic, I changed my oil and filter today my self. After changing it i took it out, but as soon as i drove i heard something spraying. So i drove back home. The oil sprayed every where on the road? Then i figured out that the oil only leaks/Sprays out when i start the car?
My question is why is the oil spraying/leaking when i only start the car it sprays all inside the engine close to the alternator and underneath the car and not when its off, it doesnt even leak when its off only when it turns on?
Can someone please help?

If it didn't do this before then it's because you either....
1) Didn't screw the filter on tight enough, or most likely the old gasket (from the old filter) is still on there too (double-gasketed it), it's an easy mistake since it's black like dirty oil, and the high oil pressure is why it sprays out like that.
2) Didn't get a new crush washer (or vinyl gasket) for your drain plug.
**Remember the oil filter is supposed to be very hand tight, and the drain plug is supposed to be 1/4 of a turn more than tight (or around there, just not too tight).

ok this is what happened when u changed the the filter the o ring on the filter stuck to the motor and now it wont seal correctly. so u need to take the filter off remove the old o ring that stuck to the engine make sure the o ring is till on the new filter re-install the filter and add oil to the engine. this happens to alot of people you for get to check if the ring came off with the filter so i guess you'll know better next time, but hey no worries ive done it before too. good luck cleaning up the oil
Yup, double oil filter seal will get you every time like that, remove the oil filter and get a NEW seal or another filter, don't re-use the ones in there.
