Default rebuilt transmission problems need help fast

i just had my transmission rebuilt while i was at college. The rebuild was done by other students and i was not present during the entire build. I just installed the trans into my hatch and now when i put the shifter into neutral it is actually in 1st and when i put it where second it is in neutral and i cant go any farther back. after this i cant get it to go in any other gear and now im swapping trans back so i want to know what to look for once i tear it apart myself i know it is most likely something wrong with the internal shift linkage. Thanks

they either somehow messed up the change selector inside the tranny or your linkage is just bent

no shift linkage is not bent because i used it on first transmission and had no problem so i have to take it apart in a lil bit i guess

Well im not a rebuilder, just used to be a R&R guy but if you ask me it could be a ton of things.

Now ive seen tranny's where shift solenoids were in the wrong spot and it caused every problem you can imagine, or a valve body that didnt get cleaned properly and it did somewhat what you're describing, theres a reason you dont let a bunch of students with probably zero actual experience rebuild a automatic transmission.

If you can get in touch with them see if they'll help you, but unless its something simple i think your going to have to take it to a shop for another rebuild.

take it apart and look at the change selector/ change holder there is a pin that goes through it and it can be put together weird.
