Radiator fan question
I have a 1993 Honda Civic and I was wondering if the radiator fan was supposed to be spinning all the time or not. I started the car up and popped the hood and noticed that the radiator fan was not spinning. So I took the car out and drove for about 10 minutes and opened the hood again and it still was not running. Or does it just kick on at a certain temp? I dont usually notice the engine overheating. Although sometimes when I am sitting in alot of traffic with the A/C on it will start to get hot, not all the way to H but a above the half way mark.I haven't drivin it on a real hot day though since I just got in back in Febuary.
Thanks

The radiator fan should run when the engine is hot. Put a jumper wire across the connector to the temperature switch located in the thermostat housing. Turn the ignition key to ON. The fan should run. If it does, then the temperature switch is bad. If it doesn't, then the fan relay or fan motor may be bad. Run power directly to the motor to test it.
The fan is thermostatically controlled to maintain a specific water temperature, it will click in/out to do this all the time. It does not come on with the A/C, but the condenser fan does run constantly with the a/c on.
