Default Trouble dialing in H22 Pro1 cams

I'm in the process of degreeing these cams in. I've used a couple methods and neither one is giving me the specs that the spec sheet shows.

My first method: I turned the crank with timing belt on, until I came to .050" lift (opening) and read the degree wheel. If it was off, I adjusted the cam gear accordingly and turned the crank again. After checking for the proper opening degree i went on to check peak and closing which are both off. So I tried this again using .039" lift for the opening and closing (because i see the cam specs are given at 1mm) and same inaccuracies are found between the 3 parameters.

My 2nd method: I turned the crank with the timing belt on, until I came to the peak lift degree spec (105 BTDC exhaust) on the degree wheel. I stopped the crank there and adjusted the cam gear until I found the peak lift position of the camshaft. After tightening the cam gear in this position, i continued to turn the crank to check the other 2 parameters. Again, both opening and closing degree numbers are off.

So what's going on here? Is it possible that a) i have the wrong camshafts, b) the "recommended camshaft specifications" are incorrect, c) i should only be using 1 of the 3 positions to degree the cam in.

no vtec doesn't need to be locked for degreeing, thats for checking clearances.

Hate to point it out, but VTEC does need to be locked if you are degreeing based on numbers for the VTEC cam lobe.

I am pretty sure the PRO1 specs are for the VTEC lobe and not for the smaller lobes.

3 ways to lock very briefly, but if you want details you can use the search as the methods have been talked about a lot.

1. Use bb Ball to lock the vtec pins
2. Swap middle rocker pin for the first rocker pin (ie swap long and short pins)
3. As per the Honda method, block of VTEC Solinoid and use compressed are in the 10mm both on the side of the head.

Either method would work..

yep you were right, sorry for my prickish response. i didn't think VTEC had to be locked for that process. maybe skunk should explain that on their spec sheet. thanks for the help.
