1987 crx motor swap.
my friend is in the market for a new motor for his car but they have been telling him he is limited to only a few swaps. Its a 1987 crx, I told him to either swap a LS-Vtech or a gsr but is there any other swaps that will fit this car and also do they make motor mounts for the swaps on this car?
I put a B16 into my 86 using the Hasport mounts. They are extreamly nice and the install was smooth.

thats the reason not too many people swap these cars with the b series. with these cars, you gotta pay to play.....UNLESS you have fab skills.
hasport is hands down the best mount kit you can buy for this car if youre gonna put a b series in it. any b-series (minus the prelude b20) will fit using this mount kit. innovative and place racing have kits but most people have bad fitment issues (snapping axles because of bad motor placement) with these.
if you dont wanna fork out the 600 bucks for the hasport kit, shop on ebay and craigslist for some used ones and hope that one pops up or fab up your own.
the other option of course is the 1st gen integra d16a1. much cheaper and easier to swap in if you have a donor car.
the other potential snag you might run into is if your crx is currently carbureted. you would then have to convert your fuel system to fuel injection.
if you wanna find out more hit up http://www.redpepperracing.com

my friend has a 1987 crx si fuel injected with a D15a3 motor, mow we did some searching an considered swapping the D16a1 head onto his D15a3 bottom end. Have any of you guys heard of this its called a HYDRA if im correct. Does anyone know the what the Horpower on that makes? The D15a3 makes 92hp and the D16a1 makes 113hp so which motor is better? Or should i just swap the whole D16a1 block and avoid that.

by doing that you add an extra 100 lbs or so which would mean you need to upgrade some suspension parts like sway bar torsion bars and maybe some other things to help the car handle the weight gain

well my friend found a donor car at the junk yark with a D16a1 motor and we pulled it out and we have it in my garage on a motor stand he got it for 250$....pretty good price so we are going to rebuild it then swap it in. Does he have to get different mounts for this motor or can he use the stock ones?
here I go again plugging another site. If you go to http://www.redpepperracing.com (seems to be down right now) go to the swap section and in a "sticky" at the top of the page there is a full write up on what you need and what mounts (stock from CRX and stock from Integra) you need to use. It is very informative and tells you step by step how to do the install with pictures. It stops short of the wireing portion but there are plenty of people on there who have done this swap who can give you a step by step.
the reason for the hydra is that some guys dont want to go through the pain of swapping a d16a1 into a crx or 3rd gen civic .So they just do the head ,But you allso have to remember that you have to get the block bored 40 over to accept the integra pistons ,not doing so with give you terrible compression IIRC .but then you allso have to add another tensioner pulley off of the d15a3 block and i think it was the 90 prelude timing belt
,see you might think this is more of a pain in the butt ,but then again you dont have to change hubs or anything just throw it back in the same as you took it out
