.RJ and I are here covering the event for TOV and man I must say this is a fantastic facility. Top notch all around from the media center to the welcome building to the grandstands. Then there's the view. Snow capped mountains on both sides with the Great Salt Lake in the back. Not a bad place to watch our first WSBK race in person.
I made the mistake of not carrying my point and shoot with me at all times. Haga, Kagayama, and Tamada were standing around having a smoke by their RV's. It would have made a great pic (and caption contest) of the world's three Japanese superbike wildmen.
Anyway I got an interview with Ronald Ten Kate and he had some interesting things to say. It'll be a good read once I transcribe it.
RJ has some really good shots already. He'll probably upload some tonight.
Lata fools,
G

I think if you could get the background to blur a bit it would give more an illusion of movement from the bike.
Beautiful pics

Sorry I couldn't get an update out last night but I was finishing up my biweekly racing roundup (http://vtec.net/articles/view-article?article_id=764806). By the time we ate and got back to the hotel we were beat.
But yesterday after my interview with Ron Ten kate I did a quick video with the American Honda race team coordinator (Ray Plumb). I had him go around and talk about the bike and some of developments they had on it. It didn't go exactly as I wanted but it was my first time trying something like that so I should be able to do better next time.
Today I'm gonna have RJ takes some pics in the Ten Kate garage. I'm hoping I can get an interview with Kiyo too but I'm not sure on that one.
One thing that was pretty funny was during WSBK practice Haga and Xaus ended up together on track. Next thing you know they have a battle going on and Xaus charged through to pass Haga and stood Haga up. Then Xaus just pulled into the pits . I guess he was still mad about Assen...

Nah this is more hobby right now. I get my expenses paid sometimes but for the most part I have to pay my way to get to the track. When I start doing print stuff I might start making some scratch though.

Correctomundo. AMA is running the full course config and WSBK is running what AMA ran last year. The AMA course is stupid long, even the superbikes are running 2:45 second laps.

Welp, unfortunately Haga and Sofuoglu got together on track and Haga went down hard, breaking his collar bone. He went to the hospital and got some x-rays and he's here trying to get into superpole. Bummer
Anyway, mo' pics:

I watched my first AMA Superbike race today and thought it was a lot like watching old Formula 1 when MS was driving. He'd run all the way up front and the only action was further back in the field.
Hodgeson looked good at first running in second in front of Yates while Hacking played some supercross. Hacking made it through the (pathetic) back markers and went around Yates and then Hodgson for a 2nd behind Spies.
WSBK on the other hand is the show I thought it would. Haga went down in early practice and was out the rest of the session with a broken collar bone. With him out, I cheered on Max Biaggi on his Ducati. I was totally surprised to see Haga back to ride Superpole that afternoon. He's got heart to get out there and ride with a broken collar bone. Max turned in a really smooth and fast run and it was great to see him and all the other riders come by and wave to the grandstand or pull a couple crowd pleasers (wheelies).
I can't wait to go back to watch the actual race.
Will I go to watch AMA SBK? Only because WSBK is there.
